all right... I'm thinking that there are plenty of clubs out there that people here frequent and since it seems like a lot of us like to travel, we might be visiting club in cities we happen to be staying in. Or perhaps you'd like a review of a club in your town before you drive x miles and pay x amount to get in.
So without getting to technical, just provide a simple format....
Name of Goth Club (and link if you can find a webpage for it):
Address, City, State, Country:
event day:
cover charge:
venue type:
genres of music played:
age range:
your written review:
rating: (out of 5.0)
I think that a thread like this would serve well for people who want to go to clubs in other cities but don't know enough about them to think the effort is worth making. Since it might explain a bit better than the brief synopses given on some websites (and a lot of really good places don't even have websites) it would be a big help to everyone here. If the club was good, explain what made it good. If it sucked, explain how it sucked.
That is all

The Den
@ The Complex
3515 Chouteau Ave.
St. Louis, MO, USA
event day: Wednesdays, expands to top floor third wednesday of each month
cover: $0
venue type: bar
music: a broad range, mostly loud industrial rock with some goth thrown in
age: 21+
review:
Ok, this place SUCKED. Not only was it hard to find, it was also out in the middle of nowhere and the "club" the advertised turned out to be a bar full of drunk and aging alternative types. The dance floor was nearly non existant.... a bit of room between some booths in the back. Upstairs is a raucous gay club and they empty down into the goth bar when they get cut off by the bartender upstairs. The DJ is quite friendly and takes requests, but the sets are played on aging equipment that sputters every so often.

Neo
2350 N. Clark
Chicago, IL, USA
days: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 9pm to 4am
cover: $2 to $6
venue type: bar with spacious dance floor
music: anything from gothic to classics to EBM to new wave
age: 21+
review:
This club rocked. The people were great, the music was excellent and well mixed, the drinks were reasonably priced and the atmosphere was positive. The club was a bit dead until about 11:30, but then heated up. The bar was packed, the dance floor was packed, the tables were full. People dressed moderately goth from jeans and t-shirts, to black velvet to leather corsets and extensions. A good mix of people a good mix of music, and the bathrooms were clean to boot.

Perversion
7070 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA, USA
event day: Thursday 9:30pm to 2am
cover: $10 ($5 with discount flyers from the club)
ages: 18+ with ID, 21+ to drink
review:
So-so. While I liked the fact that this club is the beating heart of the LA goth scene, easily the largest goth club int he country, it's also your typical huge fucking club. Three rooms, one devoted to EBM and synthpop with a huge dancing stage and a large floor. People dancing on top of the individual blocks, and scantily clad men and women everywhere. With these scantily clad people come those who gawk at the scantily clad, mostly people in regular dress or dirty old men standing it the corners. Fashion here goes from barely street legal to the corset/extension combo look and fishnet shirts or Christian Death shirts for men.
In the other two rooms are a disco room (ick) and the Helter Skelter room, named after the famous bygone/ressurrected LA club of the same name. Gothic, Ethereal, and Synth Pop in there. Like all LA venues, smoking is outside on the patio, and there is not one but THREE bars, one in each room. Drinks range from medium priced to very expensive. The people canbe fairly bitchy and antisocial and hang out in the groups they arrived with. No cohesion in the scene, and when people pick a room they usually stick with it.

Well, when I was in Cincinnati, Ohio about 4 years ago, I hit a couple of clubs out there and one of them was Vertigo. I have to confess, I was not very impressed with it at all. The music was good and the drinks were relatively cheap then but it was mostly the clientele and the atmosphere that rubbed me the wrong way. The decor of the club was . . . blah, to put it politely, there were a couple of gawkers shooting pool and the club-goers themselves seemed rather naive as if they were trying too hard to be oh-so-gothy! I guessed everyone to be of the younger age range. I felt like I was at a Halloween high-school dance. I had a few good chuckles out of it. I did meet a couple of folks there that were rather chatty and seemed friendly but yet they hounded me with questions when I told them about the New York goth scene. They wanted to squeeze every ounce of information out of me about the subject and why? Well, because Cincinnati doesn't really have much of a goth scene going on at all. There's a few good clothing stores on Vine St. but when it comes to the clubs, there is something severely lacking in them.
I gave this club a 1.5 rating and that's me being nice.
The Warehouse, also in Cincinnati, seemed to have a slightly more authentic atmosphere than Vertigo's. Some of those folks were dressed to impress and they seemed to have a better sense of the scene . . . and, NO GAWKERS! The atmosphere just gave me a sigh of relief after hitting that Vertigo club. Still, it did not even come close to any of the New York clubs but I did have a great time dancing and mingling. The staff was friendly, the DJ had a good mix of music, the drinks were cheap (but weak) and there was plenty of space in this club. No banging elbows into other people, especially on the dance floor. It could have used a few more seats though. From what I remember, it was difficult to find a place to rest my weary feet after hitting the dancefloor. If I ever head back to Cincinnati, that will be the club I return to for a night of debauchery! It really is the only place to go for a good night out in that city. Sure glad I don't live there.
I gave this club a 2.5 rating.
I'll probably have more reviews later.

Maybe Vertigo has its own 'Ladie's Night' once a week or something, I don't know.
Well, I only spent two weeks out there but it seemed to me that Vine St. or Short Vine was the place to hang out back then. That's where some of the funky stores were located and there were several restaurants, cafes and folks walking about so your best bet on finding others like yourself would probably be from lurking on that street and checking things out.
I don't know how much it has changed over the past four years though.
Maybe this little site or this one (although it looks like it hasn't been updated in awhile) might help you find more connections in your local scene.
If all else fails, you could always try the Goth Meetup to find more goths in the area.

Clockwork Orange
7070 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA, USA
event day: Friday 9:30pm to 2am
cover: $10 ($5 with discount flyers from the club)
ages: 18+ with ID, 21+ to drink
review:
three words: slumming fratboy night. Between the khaki-wearing jerk offs from UCLA and the sneering wannabe rivetbitches in cheap corsets, Clockwork Orange is probably one of the worst clubs I've ever been to. Drinks were way overpriced, the music ranged from bad filler to absolutely shitty, and the club, held at the 7070 club in Hollywood is still way way to big. Where Perversion has some socialisation, Orange has NO socialising except for the people who pretend to be scenesters going around and hugging everyone or following around the cuter guys. If the front room weren't playing half way decent goth music, I'd be tempted to give this club a 0. But I'll be generous.

Well, I can't really believe someone hasn't done this club already but hey:
Sanctuary Sundays at the Purple Onion
Sundays, 15 Water St, Vancouver, Gastown
Cover charge = $3.00
Age- 19+
My review:
The deco and atmosphere: Nice, very dark and moody.
The people: Nice, friendly. If there are gawkers I've not noticed them.
Dress: Most people dress gothy/80's with a little fettish here and there. A handfull of people do not dress up but I don't really think anyone gives a dam- I'd say this club is n00b friendly :p
Music: Okay, this club really varies a lot, the music depends on which dj is on. I have the ill fortune of turning up when industrial and EBM is mostly played. If you check the past set lists on their site you'll get a good idea of what the music is like. I was gutted to see that I missed Cinema Strange being played (nearly threw my coffee cup through my monitor).
Rooms: One, to two rooms.
Perks: There's a ticket raffel at the end of every night, you could win a free tattoo or something :p
Rating: If you're in Van this is about as good as it gets... to my knowledge.

Ah, I was actually going to do that one myself
Two things you missed though..
I do believe the cover is $3 ( well, when I've gone, that's what it's been..), and you have to be 19 to get in.. (After all, the legal age is 19) also, the other room is occasionally open with 80's music playing.
I was wondering how often you go there, Juliet? Perhaps I've seen you?

Actually, I don't go there all that often. This is mainly due to the fact that we have to get babysitters whenever we go out and my husband *hates* going out on Sunday nights ???
However, we're only going to be in the country for a little while longer so hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in a few more visits before we leave. Maybe we could meet up there sometime
BTW, thanks for the corrections, I'll edit my review now

1015 Half Street SE, Washington DC, USA
Thursdays
$7 cover (2 for 1 before 10 pm)
18 and over
I love going to this club. The building is called Nations and formerly called the Capital Ballroom, so you can imagine the size. The place is huge. The drinks are average priced. The people are awesome. The music is diverse (gothwise ). There are a few places where the music isn't too loud and you can have a conversation. The bathrooms are moderately clean. And check out their website, it's informative. I just went there yesterday and had a blast. A word of caution: the neighborhood around it is a bit of the shady area of DC (hide your valuables)
