From the Sisters of Mercy official homepage.
/div wrote: Now that the moribund relationship with East West Records is officially over, it seemed reasonable to bang out a few singles - independently - while we're putting an album together (which usually takes a long time) and getting somebody to put it out with a bit of muscle (which usually takes even longer).
This series of independent singles was due to start with a stonking (of course) version of 'SUMMER'. The music to 'SUMMER' was written by Adam Pearson. The words were written by Andrew Eldritch. It's very pretty, and probably very cruel. It goes like a freight train painted in the shiniest yellows and blues.
We planned to add another version of it (Adam supplying remix and Kleenex), and a third track which should have been one of the other new songs; we didn't decide which one. It might have been something you've heard us play live; it might not.
What with one thing and another, this was not to be. Sorry. We are working on an album, inter alia, but the matter of single releases is currently on hold.
Current research: Ludwig Wittgenstein 'Werkausgabe' [8 volumes, publ. Suhrkamp], and a picture of Jane Seymour from The Guru's copy of Front magazine. Knew you'd be pleased.

I wouldn't get too excited about it just yet. That little bit of info has been on their site for nearly a year, as far as I can remember. (Could be more than a year even, could be less.) Eldritch hasn't been contractually bound to East West since 1997, as far as I can determine. While it's a nice dream, I'm not holding my breath.

Yea, I posted that same quote in a long-dead thread ages ago when I thought it was new.

Oh if only. I wish it was still 1997 so I could retain the belief that there MIGHT be a new Sisters album out. I've heard rumours that at their live shows, the Sisters are playing a few new songs, but I doubt it's going to be enough to produce an album for a while.

They did perform new tracks when I saw 'em but I think there still a bit too stoned to do alot at the moment.
Also seeing as Eldritch seems to often completely lose faith in the band, and he hates us goths who are the main market the cd would reach it might not ever happen.
However there is a file on mp3 share thingy Winmx that claims to be the new album, it wouldn't open on my freinds pc however.
Might be bogous, might not.

Personally, I really don't care if the SoM comes out with a new CD. I always liked SoM past music (and still do now). But that was then and this is now. If one goes to their official website they themselves say that they are " a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine" (that and many other pompous and "I am so full of myself statements"). So, it's going to be a very long time before we hear anything like SoM's Floodland cd. And of course, the site still contains the link to Andrew Eldritch's famous anti-goth statements interview. I wonder if even after all this time can Eldritch and company bring themselves to giving goths just a tiny, only just a tiny, bit of credit and respect.
Take for example, the Ethereal Goth band -- "Black Tape for a Blue Girl". A band that I have complete admiration and respect for. This is a band whose members openly admit that they are goth (and not afraid of it), dress goth (lots of black) and sing as well as musically present themselves as goth. After reading some of their interviews, they seem have great deep respect for their fans regardless of the size of the fanbase. This is not to say that all goth music must contain any goth members at all. Quite the contrary. I recently read a positive goth quote that the VNV Nation had made. While I do not know for sure if any of the VNV Nation's members are goth (or not), but it does goes to show you is that they are not going to openly disrespect goths who spend their hard earned money buying their cds and concert tickets. You know the old adage "Never bite the hand that feeds you"; every recording artist knows that concept (or should). It is too bad Eldritch and company just don't get it after all this time. The goth subculture has never left the SoM. SoM in fact left us a long time ago.

SoM albums are like NASA landings on the moon. They're glorious and triumphant when they happen, but let's not kid ourselves. We're not going to see any more in the future.

I'd be a bit hesitant to tar the entire band with the same brush. Let's not forget that many of the SoM members went on to The Mission UK, who have done very well for themselves, still put out new material, and who I've never heard utter a bad word about goths.
Also former SoM members like Wayne Hussey often do remixes or other producer/related duties on various goth albums (Gossamer's debut springs to mind).
I think most of the anti-goth stuff comes solely from Mr. I'm-so-full-of-myself Eldritch.

The Sisters of Mercy, what? Why are we discussing them on a goth board? Everyone knows that they aren't goth. They're a rock'n'roll band.
-larne.
(PS: It's the "The Mission" not "The Mission UK", bloody Americans :p)

Larne - wholeheartedly agreee.... THE MISSION!
The closest we'll probably get for at least this Aeon to a new Sisters record is THIS (if you haven't heard it yet?)....

Hope I'm not being boring here, but I thought in case anyone had'nt heard it yet I ought to tell you! I know the song's now 4 years old or so but at least it's the first time there's been a Sisters approved version released!
