In the middle reading Silk by Caitlin R. Kiernan.

It's funny you should mention The Alienist, Lachrymose. I just added it to my Amazon saved queue a few days ago.

New here and reading is my favorite thing so very glad to find this thread...taking notes for good ideas of what to read next. Currently reading:

Aldous Huxley's collected essays
The Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber (I'm an adult but really enjoy young adult fiction sometimes)
Emily Dickinson collected works
And I'm about to start the Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice (came a little late to the Anne Rice party because I heard too many good things about her in high school - kind of lame of me I know).

I recently finished up Stephen King's Dark Tower series, except for the book that just came out that's just sort of a side story between two of the other novels in the series. King's got to be one of the only authors that could mix and mash up horror, scifi, high fantasy, and westerns, in addition to bridging together several of his other works, and somehow pull it off.

I'm currently working my way through the Eisenhorn omnibus in the Warhammer 40K universe. I'm not quite 200 pages in, and I already love this character. He's the kind of character I imagine at some point saying to a superior, "It's not my fault you keep sending me on missions that end in explosions."

I'm currently reading Encyclopedia Gothica. It's actually hilarious in places, as well as being informative.

Ooo! 550 interesting words and phrases to peruse! I've just ordered this book! My logophilia will be much appeased!

I think you'll enjoy it, Neph. It actually had me laughing out loud in places.

It's a beautifully-bound book; even the design on the cover is lovely.

I'm going to be buying The Turn of the Screw by Henry James and Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis. I absolutely loved American Psycho, it is my favorite book so far. I'm thoroughly excited for The Turn of the Screw as well! :D

I'm about a quarter way through A Feast For Crows of the Game of Thrones series.

I told myself that I needed to read the books before watching the series.

The book came in the mail today. And -- hey! Our own Goth.net has an entry in the book!

Finished Silk by Caitlin R. Kiernan. It was good, but I much prefer her novel The Red Tree. I just started reading House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Post Re: Who's Reading What?
I´ve been quite active for the past few months so here are three book series that are worth mentioning

Rae Wilder Series by Penelope Fletcher.
The Demon Girl (book one); Demon Day (book two), Demon Dark (book three) and there will be book four named Demon Boy (can´t wait for it!).

There are some bad writings in these series but the main idea is good, characters are beautiful and ... well the author has a great potential.
You have a city where humans live. There is a wall and behind the wall is forest where demons live. Demons are faeries, vampires, witches, shifters (half human half animal) and all other "monsters" you can imagine (like goblins, giants - you get the idea). What I like the most is that everything is real, you can see it in our world: demons are animals, humans are humans who need to have everything under their control. They want to destroy the forest and everything that lives in it because they simply don´t understand. You hate what you don´t understand, what you cannot have.
Series has romance in it and at some parts book can be really annoying but it´s absolutely not another paranormal romance novel. There are some really good questions asked

Heavenly, Penitence and Absolution by Jennifer Laurens.
This is just wow. I think these are my no.1 series. It´s not about characters but about how they´re dealing with things. The end was epic, I was shocked. Still can´t explain what I feel. I highly recommend this for everyone. I am not Christian but had to ask myself, is there really someone who watches your back?

Wings, Spells, Illusions (Wild) and Destined by Aprilynne Pike.
These are children books and I don´t care. Beautiful story and characters.
I have UK paperback editions of these series and now collecting USA editions.
Excellent ending! Loved it so much.

I´m currently reading Starfire Angels by Melanie Nilles and Frey Saga by Melissa Wright - both boring so far

I just bought Handling the Undead, by John Ajvide Lindqvist. I absolutely loved Let Me In and I've heard such good things about this novel that I just have to give it a try. :D He's a brilliant writer!
