Post The Walking Dead on AMC cable channel
Has anyone else been watching "The Walking Dead" on AMC? If you like zombies and an apocalyptic, post-zombie-virus Atlanta, you'll love it. I even entered their contest, because I'd love to win a "stagger-on role as a zombie" on a future episode!

The Walking Dead on AMC

I missed the first episode and I'm kicking myself for that. Now I don't want to jump in and watch any subsequent episodes, because I have this obsessive-compulsive thing about needing to see the first episode first, and then watching everything in order.

I guess I'll have to wait until the first season comes out on DVD. :(

Good luck with that contest, LG!

Thanks, Nephele! I'd be a natural as a zombie. All they have to do is send a camera crew to my house and film me any time before 10 AM. :/

Hahaha! And, hey -- I just found it on Hulu.com. I'm watching the first episode right now! Wheeee!

EDIT: Okay, I'm back, having watched the first episode. This series is brilliant and I'm officially hooked.

But, having watched that first episode, I now have a burning question (spoiler alert): Can horses turn into zombies?

Due to the gratuitous amount of carnage, I don't think that horse is ever coming back. Besides, then we would get into the Resident Evil predilection for zombie crows. :P

Okay, I've now seen episode 2, and I've just got to say that (spoiler alert!) I would've left that racist chained on the roof, too. Buh-bye, dangerous racist man.

Yes, I thought that was poetic justice. And no, I don't think the horse is coming back. It also kind of bugged me that the deputy's wife did the humpty-hump with his friend. She can't wait until she finds out whether or not her husband is dead?

But all in all, I like the series so far. There aren't enough zombie programs on prime-time TV.

That guy is doomed. Not just for betraying his friend the deputy by bedding his wife, but simply for breaking Zombie Survival Rule #5

"Rule 5: No Attachments: This is a tough one but you can not have attachments. If you got kids or a wife you're less likely to survive then the gal or guy who has no attachments and nothing slowing him or her down. Or worse yet making bonehead decisions like 'going back into the room'." Source: http://www.horror-movies.ca/horror_16631.html

You can actually watch the whole thing on Hulu. For once a show I like is actually on a legit site! w00t!

Sorry, Spidey, but I don't think Hulu is going to help much beyond that first episode. Here's the announcement on Hulu's site: "The season premiere is available until 9pm PST Nov. 23. Additional episodes will not be available for streaming on Hulu."

I caught episode 2 last night via a site that I'm not too certain is legit.

Growl grawl grumblegrumble...

Well so much for that. I was so hoping they'd put it out there so more people could watch because I doubt people are going to pay for cable tv just to watch this one show.

I am ambivalent about The Walking Dead. On one hand, it is a very well produced program with very good character development and subplots. As a human drama it wil hold your interest quite well.
But it does have one of my pet peeves of all times when it comes to horror/disaster movies in general. The lead character is a law enforcement officer. Trained to deal with emergencies and dangerous situations. Yet when he awakes in the hospital, he staggers around in shock for an undue amount of time, finally wandering into the street in barefeet and hospital gown. Come on. After seeing the chaos and destruction in the hallways, the first thing I would do would be to get some clothes on, especially shoes, and something I could use as a weapon. Maybe my own military training gives me an unbalanced perspective, but after all, this is a law officer.
Then we have the moron shooting zombies from his safe house. Real smart.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing in the beginning. But, remember, the guy was in shock, and still not yet fully recovered from his bullet wound. And, he did fully equip himself pretty soon afterwards. (I'm putting the rest of this into spoiler black-out). He even equipped himself with handcuffs, which we saw coming in handy in the second episode. In his first (?) encounter with a mobile zombie (the little girl), he didn't hesitate (much) to put a bullet in her head. He was even resourceful enough to get himself a horse when his gas ran out. Anyway, wasn't it the other guy, the one with the son, who was shooting zombies from his safe house? And that guy certainly knew what he was doing wasn't too smart, so I think maybe he snapped from seeing his zombie wife. The episode ended without us knowing what happened to him and the boy. Which is what's great about this series, because it keeps you wondering from scene to scene what's going to happen next?.

He (and other characters) made some very dumb moves which I think were designed to heighten and string out the drama. (I'm being vague to avoid giving details away to people haven't seen it yet.) Even when he was more "together", he did not properly secure his weapons. He did not do proper recon. For a Law Officer, I just found it hard to believe. There were too many lapses, and by all rights he should have been as dead as the Walkers.
