"Scandalous" Burlesque Dancers of the 1890s.
Warning: Contains pictures of women completely clothed in form-fitting tights and corsets. SEE the uproar!

The comments section is full of fail. Don't think the general public will ever stop beileving that corsets will "destroy your internal organs"

Right...don't you have to have ribs removed and stuff? sgath92 wrote: The comments section is full of fail. I have seen some pretty small 19th century shoes in antique shops, that you just know were worn by adults instead of children. Have a hard time picturing it though.
My flatmate wears period hats and we've only come across three that fit him in as many years. Everything else has been way too small. I think the reason why the girls in these photographs were so petite [as in short] was because if they had gone with tall girls like we use as models today, the public back then would have instead assume they're circus freaks.

This just confirms what I've always believed: I was born in the wrong century (I'm very short and curvy).

Absolutely gorgeous, I loved the one of "Diana" with the bow... And yes, the comments do show what a superficial, ignorant society we continue to live in. They gloat about how things were in "those days" but all we've really done is replaced one set of ideals with another.
