Post Liberators of Nijmegen
On May 5, 1945 WWII ended in the Netherlands. The city of Nijmegen was - with the south of the country - liberated earlier (in 1944), but the northern half of the Netherlands was liberated in 1945. In Nijmegen, a photographer of the local photography shop took pictures of soldier of the allied forces that liberated the city and where stationed there in 1944-1945.

A few years ago, those images where donated to the city archive. Who the soldiers are, is not known. In the newspapers yesterday (May 5, 2012) there was attention to this story. Also, the archives asks the public for information about the soldiers. But I think chances of identifying those men will be greater if Americans and Brits (the soldiers are all thought to be from the US and UK) will take a look at them as well. So, if you have an uncle or (grand-)father who fought during WWII or are just curious to see the faces of the men that did, look here: Liberators on film.

If you recognise someone, you can leave a message at the site.

This is a cool little factoid, and the pix are neat too! And the title would make a great video game title! (X Box and PS3 of course. PC version to come later.)

A good place to post this would also be on the WWII pro boards and WWII Reenactor forums. Quite a few of the units seem to be identified in the photos (the uniform details are quite fascinating, especially the dispatch rider and the Gordon Highlanders) and many of the others are probably also from the I British and II Canadian Corps, which held the Nijmegen salient from Nov 44 - Feb 45. Hopefully some of the unit historians or veterans associations will peruse these.
