Unless the person in question is an attention whore, and known to not take constructive criticism well, I would encourage you to give it a shot and give genuine feedback. Artists can't progress if they keep making the same mistakes, and many (if not most) things could be improved or fixed by getting that sort of acknowledgement. Also, artists in any area love a little ego stroking if they're proud of a creation. So long as you're pointing out the things that could be improved as well as things they did well, few would be upset about it.

Oh, I know this all very well for myself (I've written two novels, made several paintings), and I live for compliments, and can take genuinely constructive critiques fairly well. I just don't like hurting people's feelings. There are few exceptions to my rule of "don't watch/listen to/read a friend's works", and they're all people relatively close enough, or relatively famous enough that I have a fair idea of how well they might take an unfavouable opinion, and how best to word it for them.

Fair enough. I just know how hard it can be to get critiques unless you're either in a class or willing to pay a premium for it with professional editors, so perhaps I'm a bit biased. I can definitely understand not wanting to cause unnecessary tensions. Unless you know they won't take it personally, it really does seem to be a mixed bag when you have to guess about a particular person's reaction. If it goes badly, the situation is going to idle at at least uncomfortable.

Post Re: Goth Points
Quick question: I've been missing in action for a while, can I count in all the things I remember from the past few months that would add or subtract goth points from my current balance?

Bought two hairbands, one black, with a flower and feathers on top (which I LOVE!) and a gray one with a flower on top: +2
Bought a beige hairband: -1
Currently wearing said black hairband and black bottoms: +2
Also wearing a blue jacket and a black net-beige-gray inner sleeveless top: -1.5
And dull golden flats: -1
My purse is yellow colored: -1
My handbag is maroon: +1
Bought Rammstein's 'Herzeleid' a few weeks ago: +1
My notebook for college is clad in a red outer cover and a braid made of black and red satin ribbons decorates the edges: +1
Made a backyard graveyard in The Sims: Life Stories: +1
My Sim is a goth: +1
The house is done up in gray, red, and black (and the occasional dark brown): +1
The password for the computer at my place of work is StygianShores: +1
I always write with either a black or red pen: +1
I set out for college at 5:20/30 A.M., even though I could easily reach in time if I set out at 5:50 A.M. It's nice, cold, and dark at 5:20 (and I love listening to music when it's dark), it gets lighter by 5:50.: +1
Bought 'The Complete Edgar Allan Poe', a 1024 page book containing all of his works, a few weeks ago: +1

Subtotal: +9.5
Current goth card balance: 23.5

Post Re: Goth Points
-My favourite plush right now is a black skeleton cat. +1
-It's bones turn shocking, unnatural, cyber-goth green under a black light. It also glows in the dark. +2

-Unfortunately I bought it at Hot Topic. -1
-But they only sold it for a short period of time and now it's discontinued. +1
-I also had to wait weeks and weeks for it to come, because as far as I know there are no Hot Topic stores in my country. (There is one Torrid, though.) +5
- I'm going to get glowing skeletal dread falls to match. +1

-My last boyfriend was from Transylvania. +10
-Why yes, he did have the accent, why do you ask? :) +2 (So we were the couple where the girl looked like a vampire and the boy talked like one. Fabulous. )
-He lived near the Carpathians, and the part of Hungary where Bela Lugosi was from. +10
-He rarely wrote love notes, but when he did they were always based on snippets of Poe poems, which he had memorized. They're sitting in a binder in my room. +3
-The binder is bright and flowery. -1

-He also hated goths, and pretty much all other alternative types. ("Tattoos are mutilations and those clothes are a waste of money! ") -5
-Our relationship is toast. -1

-But I can enjoy Poe without him. +2

-...And I mostly spent my time the day after we broke up lounging around dramatically in my 'waste-of-money' Victorian lace top and bat PJ's. Goth gave me that confidence to say 'And no shits were given that day'. Obviously it was not meant to be.+50 and a lifetime achievement.

Gonna wear dull golden and black tomorrow: -1
Got called a 'freak' for professing my love for graveyards over amusement parks: +1
My friend said I looked Goth on a day I did not dress up: +1
Tried to persuade said friend to go visit my favorite graveyard rather than an amusement park: +1
My new earphones are red-and-black and the microphone+play/pause button thingy is COFFIN SHAPED! I fell in love with it the moment I saw it, and even though I went to another store to check out what they had to offer I rushed back to the earlier store to seal the deal: +1
Successfully persuaded an acquaintance to check out Rammstein and he said he liked them: +1
Found Richard Z Kruspe's lookalike...he's a grocer: +1
Watched a Simpsons episode, the one about Poe's 'The Raven' today, two times: +2
For saying Queen Victoria instead of Queen of England in a remark I made about the inaccuracy of Facebook's location pinpointing thingy. Specifically: "If this is in _____, then I'm Queen Victoria": +1
My mum bought me a new umbrella, and it's black with blue borders - she told me she knew I liked black and thus decided on that one: +1
