I think I've just about sucked the life out of goth for myself. I have a large gothic album collection which I've listened to repeatedly. It includes all the essential goth albums. I've seen virtually every movie that is even remotely gothic. I've read all the Anne Rice novels. It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to find anything fresh and new to inspire me.
I have all the Mick Mercer goth books so I suppose I could check out every obscure band but that only covers music. I don't know where to find any movies or books to provide fresh inspiration.
I've had some luck finding obscure gems by digging deep into European goth sites.

look within yourself, not within worldly possessions. goth isn't about music, fashion, books, etc. it's what you make of it. just be you (as overused as that is said, it's true).

Maybe your problem is that you're spending all your time focusing on things that are goth. Variety is the spice of life. If you watch and listen and read things that aren't goth more then when you do go back to anything that is goth later on it'll seem more fresh and special to you. Varying things is a lot better than just overloading yourself with the same genres all the time.

As blckencht said, maybe your losing interest in what you find Gothic, because you don't look at anything else and are thus saturated in Gothic culture. Therefore what was once special has become mundane. Perhaps diversifying what you look at ect. would help you to find new inspiration.

You don't have to listen to only gothic music to be goth, and, bearing in mind that you listen to the music because you like it and not because you have to, it shouldn't get boring. For me it doesn't - I like a variety of genres, gothic rock, new wave, dark wave, industrial, synthpop, classic rock... Not all of it's goth, but I listen to it because 1) I like it and 2) I like to vary the music I listen to, otherwise I would get bored. /div wrote: I've seen virtually every movie that is even remotely gothic. Did you enjoy them, or watch them because they are considered goth? Again, vary what you watch. Even I like to watch comedies, or even some romantic chic flick every once in a while. (What?! Not everyone likes horror films :p ) /div wrote: I've read all the Anne Rice novels. It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to find anything fresh and new to inspire me.
I got bored of Anne Rice, to be honest. Try something different, a different genre perhaps? What about poetry? How about writing your own novels (I know it's not the same as reading one, but perhaps something you might like?)
The key, like the others have said, is to vary what you read/watch/listen to. Trying out a new genre will make you appreciate the goth genre more, and make it "seem more fresh and special to you." (Blckencht)
~Hell's Angel - Currenly listening to Brad Paisley - 'Whiskey Lullaby'. Omg country music! :b ~

You can find inspiring things in media that isn't labeled "Certified Goth Approved" ya know. Check out books on the history of fashion, period costume dramas, recordings of organ music. Go see a play. Where's your free-thinking?

*makes a grab for Hell's Angel's Goth Card&tm;, completely ignoring her own last comment*

::takes a look at the lounge CDs on her desk and hides her Goth Card&tm; from Luna::
When I run out of goth, I just go down to the morgue and pick up some more.

If so, then we'll just continue to make jokes about losing one's Goth Card&tm; for listening to Country and Lounge music. :p

(80 thousand points. Don't worry, our point system is completely arbitrary. Like in Whose Line is it Anyway?)

You know, Goth is a very elaborate system. You get more points subtracted, depending on the sub-genre of Japanese music. ;P I think, it would be zero, if it's music from Japanese doramas intended for young schoolgirls.
I say this, only because my friend still enjoys the Pokemon theme song.

Actually I've been away from Goth because I'm heavily involved in YouTube and Stickam. I'm cycling back to Goth because the online video social network community is getting boring. I go on Stickam and there are five or eight people on camera not saying a word, just staring at the web cam feeds. It is really boring.
Militaristic industrial music is something new I've found. I like the music of Laibach and Life's Decay. Some of the anthems are majestic and inspiring but I don't care for glorifying the military or the soldier's life.
Increasingly I find I have to use my imagination to satisfy my goth hunger. I should create something of my own to add to the goth subculture. Since I've mastered video production maybe I can work towards that.
