 Black lipstick question
I searched but...just kidding. I've seen a lot of tips about keeping black lipstick black, etc. I'm curious as to how to apply the stuff. I don't look too bad in it, but the problem is that it feathers really bad and runs. I use lipliner but it hasn't helped. I have big lips as it is, with the fullness being in the center of my upper and lower lips while the outsides (towards my cheeks, if that makes sense) are pretty thin. I feel a bit silly, worried that my black looks wierd or like my lips are trying to crawl off my face. How can you apply black lippie without looking like a clown?

 Re: Black lipstick question
Maybe try the suggestion in other threads, doing your lips in black make-up instead. Like, liquid eyeliner, with the lip balm over top or whatever?

 Re: Black lipstick question
Hm... some things to try: make sure your lips aren't all dry and cracking before application. Keep them moisturized. If you tend to use foundation, you could apply a thin layer to your lips as well, to help give the lip colour something to stick to. And also, there are brands of lip colour out there that have a sort of overlayer you put on which acts like a sealant to keep it on. Not that you'll find it in black, but you may try getting some and applying their clear sealant to your own black lipstick and see if that helps.
The main issue is, really, that the makers of black lipstick tend to make really CHEAP stuff that is more for costuming than regular wear. They put more effort into colours the masses will wear/buy every day, you know? So there will almost always have to be workarounds for it.

I'd also suggest trying to line your lips and the corners with eyeliner before applying the lipstick. This will not only make it look a touch neater but it will also give you a chance to figure out if you want to alter the shape of your lip line. You know, make the bottom lip more rounded, maybe make the points of the upper lip more defined etc. I also find that if you're wearing black lipstick, you might want to consider going light on the eye makeup, that way your face won't be a mess of overwhelming dark.

 Re: Black lipstick question
Oh definately....eye or mouth, but not both in my makeup philsophy. I learned that the hard way...I also hate going all the way to my brow bown with shadows---when I was first starting out I thought you were supposed to and boy did I look funny. On subject: lip liners haven't worked so far, but I'm giving the eye liner a shot and we'll see if that helps. I don't wear black very much, but I've been kind of in the mood for it...

Do what Luna suggested with he foundation first, then color in your lips fully with black eyeliner, per Luci's suggestion. Then go over THAT with your lippie and dab a black eyeshadow over the top to hold it all in place. I do know that MAC made a lippie called 'black knight' and I can personally vouch for the quality of their stuff, it's fab!

 Re: Black lipstick question
Thanks Wolfmammy...that is some serious lippie. Looking forward to giving it a try until I can get ahold of the MAC stuff. Where can you buy that? Can you order it from their site? No stores in my area carry that colour, when they carry MAC at all. Hmm...and now that I think about it, I don't often wear foundation, just a light dusting of powder. Will that work or should I use the foundation?

It will help all of your cosmetics stay in place instead of feathering, sliding off or melting. Sorry, I guess the black knight was a limited edition color or something. It's no longer on their site. MACI have Cyber & Russian Red. They smell like chocolate. The only black lipstick I own doesn't look good by itself which is why I layer it if I ever wear it. I did see that Manic Panic sells a matte black lippie. I haven't bought anything from them, but at $10 it's not a bad price. If you want, I can pm you some of the links I have concerning cosmetics. ^_^

I agree, I've never liked the nude lip look when someone goes all out on their eyes. It always looks like they've forgotten half their face.

 Re: Black lipstick question
I'd love some reccommended links Wolfmammy. I'm sort of addicted to this make up thing, but I definately need pointers. I like to favor my eyes because I think they're my best feature, but I still do something really light, like pale pink or shiny shimmery something on the lips so I don't feel like I'm trying to be batman (cover the eyes, but not the mouth and somehow people don't recognize you...). On a sidenote, I've found a site online which carries the black knight lippie for around $13. It's pricey, but I think it's worth it so I'm going to order it from them today. I should post a review or something of it afterward.

 Re: Black lipstick question
When I put black lipstick on, I usually do it like this: I line/color in my lips with black eyeliner (because I can't find actual lipliner), then put the black lippie over top of it, blot, and put black eyeshadow over it (apply this carefully or you'll end up with difficult to remove black eyeshadow around your mouth and just look silly). Then lippie, blot, eyeshadow one more time. Use the eyeliner to fix any small mistakes you may have made. That usually lasts me a while.
