I use Windows XP. However, I hate the rounded edges and slow dissolves when you close a window, so I use the classic Windows display.

Yeah windows is okay, but Linux works so much better than Microsoft and apple OS. And it is free for god sakes. I think we are seeing true corporate greed right there, but maybe that has something to do with the people that do updates and utilities are the same people that use it. My wife I just started using Linux Ubuntu, and we are falling in love with it.

I'm a sysadmin, I'm fortunate enough to have access to OS X, Linux, and Windows, which makes me quite proficient in all three. My personal laptop is a Macbook Pro, but at home I run Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows 7 as well. I think it's good to be proficient in as much technology as possible when you're in IT.

Out of all three, I'd say I prefer OS X the most. Unix core + excellent user interface makes me happy. I don't really use Linux as a desktop, prefer it as a server.

While my laptop was working (which should be fixed sometime next week or so) I had windows 7 andI loved it. So I guess for now i really am thinking that at this point Windows 7 is my favorite. Then again, I have always been a sucker for Windows...but then again, i have never had a different OS than Windows.

Can you play any games newer than Quake 3: Arena on it?

My favorite os is Ubuntu Linux, I'm currently running 10.04 on my laptop. As far as gaming is concerned sadly windows is your only option due to lack of penguin love.

Linux is nice, you can knock up a device driver very easily and hack the kerenel til you go glassy eyed. Using an RTOS is fun as well, eCOS was not bad, OS20 (for a mutant son of transputer) had half the OS in hardware - very small footprint for a 32 bit system. I play with PICs as well, so no OS.
Considering, VMS was nice, Unixy things passable and Primos sucked donkey balls.

Actually, hun, I could read that post over and over until I go glassy-eyed... And still very little of it would be intelligible!

I am, I admit, more than a little jealous...

Don't be. Knowing that stuff is like knowing the Necronomicon - it makes you a little strange, you find youself surrounded by even weirder oddballs, and typing incantations that only the insane can decypher. I should have done bricklaying or something instead.

And that's why I stick with Windows. I had my fill of fiddling with OS' to get games running back in the days of MSDOS, when 640K was supposedly enough for anybody.

But...but the Necronomicon isn't real!

Neither am I; a virtual character in an unreal situation. BTW just saw a Volvo ad with a tie-in to the dreaded Twilight. Much suckage.
