Re: what is your favorite os
I grew up on Windows so I'm a bit biased, but I had a class where we worked with other OS's. I had to get used to Linux, but I came to like it as much as Windows(I like SUSE the best). At least as a home and office OS. I hate Linux as a server. I will never admin on a Linux server. It is so easy to screw up if you don't know what you're doing since it's not fail safe like Windows. We never got to work with Mac since it's so damn expensive, but I need to exprience it eventually since I'm going into graphic design now. My teacher did warn me that there's no right clicking on Mac so that's something I'll have to get used to.
We even got to work with older OS's like DOS and Winodows NT(both desktop and server versions). It took me awhile to get the hang of DOS since it was command line only. While I still prefer a GUI, it is nice that I can work a command line if I need to.
The computer program I was in already had Windows 7 before it was released to the public so I got to experiment with it. It's my favorite Windows OS so far which, ironically, I haven't bothered installing(My XP is just fine and I don't do any of that hardcore stuff that would need me to update to a new OS). It's what Vista should have been.

Re: what is your favorite os
Though I'm on Windows XP right now (having issues with my own laptop), I use OpenSUSE Linux and I would deffend it with my life lol. Also using Symbian for mobile phone but in this case there is currently like no option I could ever think of switching to so too good it's the best hehe.

Re: what is your favorite os
I have no true bias, every OS has it's use. I grew up using DOS, then Win95/98 and up. I've used Linux here and there all my life. I was introduced to the Mac OS in elementary school (can't remember the version though, and I hated it!). Basically it goes like this, for me:
Windows XP/7: Unbeatable for games and work (MS Office, baby!). Linux: Unbeatable for security/hacking. (I personally use BT4 and Knoppix) Mac OS X: Unbeatable for general computer use, browsing the web, editing all sorts of media (video/audio/photo), and modeling.
Mac OS X is my primary OS. I have an original unibody MBP (which was my first, and so far only, Mac), so I can install any other OS I want on it and run it natively, just nothing works as well as a Mac.

If you press the control and then click simultaneously, you have right clicking. You can also just plug in any old usb mouse with two buttons and it works just the same. I think my favorite right now is windows 7. It's fast, and everything works. It's been 6 months since I upgraded to windows 7 and I've never had to reinstall or anything.

You can get a right click in OSX (Mac) by a two finger tap. You might want to get your teacher on a training course written after 1984.

Re: what is your favorite os
at the moment I'm using my parents computer and they've got Windows Vista on it...which I've gotta say is fucking rubbish!!! it's really unstable and prone to freezing and just going wrong. I tried to persuade the folks to get Windows 7 because I've heard it's better. But I love Knoppix, I used it when my parents laptop crashed and I had to use knoppix to boot it so I could get our stuff off it. But Knoppix is so easy to use, I loved it.....so much better than Windows!

I honestly miss DOS. I would run LINUX if the Hubz would agree to it. Currently we run Windows 64bit. It works much better than Vista when we had that.

However, he was able to get some old Mac hardware to show us how effort is put into it compared to other brands. Made me consider investing in one someday(I'm too damn broke right now ). Now about the comments on Vista(which I'm running on my laptop). It's my least favorite Windows OS, but I don't thinks it's as bad as people make it out to be. The only 2 faults of it are really speed and compatibility. The reason Vista is slow is because most are installed with only it's minimum memory that's between 512MB and 1GB. Vista is supposed to run on at least 2GB. Most compatibility issues are caused because not all manufacturers couldn't or wouldn't update their drivers to be Vista compatible. I don't know now if they're all updated since I don't bother putting too much on it. When I do, I make sure the specs say it's Vista compatible. I could upgrade if I wanted to(I'm doing a double major so in my IT major, the students have access to free software to download), but I don't do anything that requires me having to a lot of configuring(like PC gaming).

Re: what is your favorite os
Have used:
Windows 95 / 98 / XP Home/Pro / Vista Home/Business/Ultimate / 7 Ultimate Ubuntu 9.04 OS X
I'd have to say that my favourite is Win7. It's the snappiest OS I've seen, besides Ubuntu, but U's hardware support is so f**king horrible that I have little patience for it. I run a heavily tweaked Win7 install on my desktop myself.

Re: what is your favorite os
I've used a lot of different operating systems. Everything from MS-DOS 3 to Windows XP Pro and everything in between. I'd be running Linux Xubunto but as mentioned by other posters, you can't really play too many games on that. As for stability, speed, and security, Linux is the best hands down IMO. I ran it for a bit and it never crashed and I rarely saw the hard drive light going crazy like it does with Widows. Plus it natively supported my AMD processor's 64 bit abilities making it even faster. I'd like to try the new Xubunto 10. I hear it's cool.

Windows XP. I have Vista right now and really not a fan of it.
DOS was pretty cool. My first computer was DOS. I only knew the simplest of commands (mostly games) since I was pretty young at the time. And actually, it was my sister's comp, not mine, lol.

I like XP as far as Microsoft products go. I wouldn't mind trying Windows 7. I have heard horror stories about Vista....
