Post Holidays. Lachrymose style.
I worked today, then had dinner with family. We went out to eat and then returned home for some TV and conversation. And that's the end of that.

For several decades, I have been much happier without holiday-overload. None of them really "does" anything for me (the 4th of July is cool) and year after year, I see person after person go to ridiculous expense and and near exhaustion for these things.

I invite all of you to join the stress-free ways of holiday-free living and: No leftovers. No expense. No "relatives" sitting on your furniture, using all of your toilet paper and telling you how stupid the president is, no living incubators (a.k.a. other people's children), and nobody to clean up after.

Join us, won't you? :)

The only holiday I ever enjoy is Halloween, and thats only because it's always been about just having a good time with your friends (to me), and whats not to like about that?
Everything else though, I can do without.
Working for a company that falls "victim" to the christmas rush, will kill any lingering fondness for that holiday (and I never liked it to begin with...).

...I just realised, I'm probably missing the point of this thread...it's about thanks giving, isn't it? *facepalm*

My biggest expectation from any holiday is a day off from work. If I get a day off from work, then I really require very little else to give me a nice, warm holiday glow.

My perfect holiday would be to go to a relative's house (or have them come to mine) for drinks/coffee and dessert. The "big meal" thing is a LOT of work, and it's over in about a half-hour. Just sitting around the table talking over coffee and some great cheesecake or custard pie would be a dream. It will never happen, though.

This is all I ask for in any holiday... just for other people to go away and leave me alone

Well it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has to put up with relatives talking about Politics when they get together. The two main pieces of conversation at my in-laws house at their Thanksgiving festivities (actually ALL holidays) are God and Politics.

Considering my views are vastly different from their on both subjects (and I'm the only one in these gatherings whose views on these subjects are blasphemous to them) I tend to keep quiet, grin, bare it, and curse them all out silently for being such single-minded assholes. Mean of me? Yeah, probably, but I do it. I occasionally speak up, but most of the time I find it is better to laugh silently at their ignorance than to try and correct them, therefore getting the family to sit down and have heart-to-hearts with me and tell me how foolish I am.

At least I'm not the one who believe Hindus stretch their necks out. Yeah, they talked about that. I kept silent but was laughing my ass on inwardly at the assumption that it was the Hindus who did it. They later did a google search on it and realized how wrong they were...if I had said something I would have gotten an earful. Thankfully technology did it for me and he couldn't treat that like an idiot.

Seriously, last time I tried to correct my brother-in-law he went on and on the rest of the day about it and how right he was and how wrong I was and when all was said and done. It was about Global Warming. And yes, he pissed me off and showed me just how much he doesn't care about the environment. So yeah, I just keep quiet these days because they won't listen to me anyway and I'm not going to waste my energy trying.

Yesterday was harsh, to say the least. I hate going to people's house to eat. I don't like it. I HATE eating in front of people, espeically his family. I feel like everyone is watching me and it freaks me out. It doesn't help that I loathe this parent's cooking. I seriously can't eat it. It's gross to me. Needless to say I'm a very picky eater so thanksgiving tends to suck for me.

So yeah, I'd agree about the whole forgoing holidays. I'd prefer to celebrate my pagan holidays in reverence and peace and say screw all the modern extravagance of materialism.

You got my meaning right on, there, man.

I rather thought I'd find a group of somewhat similar-thinkers here, unlike on Facebook, where I seem to have hit a little-snooky nerve with some people.

They're crazy! Do some people really enjoy all of the stress of doing the holidays the other way?

Apparently, there are. And they're quite offended at the suggestion that one enjoys a small, low-key day or (goodness forbid) solitude from the layers of garbage.

No, I'm good. I'd rather just bake for my ungrateful family and stress.

Actually, I don't think I'd know what to do if I had to relax for thanksgiving or Christmas or whatever...I'd probbaly explode.
