 Things/objects that comfort you
Recently I was really upset and felt very alone. When I feel like that there is only one thing that makes me feel better and that is Teddy. He is quite tatty now, and I've had him since I was a baby (my Mum placed him in my pram before I was even born). He's lost an eye over the years and he could do with a wash (although I'm scared of his other eye going and I don't want him to be blind lol). Looking at him, he isn't goth in anyway, but I love him just the same... and even though I have gothic teddies, like pumpkins, bats and witches they don't give me the level of comfort I get from Teddy. I don't smoke or drink and have nothing that I can turn to when I feel stressed (except food and I'm not comfort eating again as I've done it in the past and that way lies pain and heartache for me!)... so Teddy it is. I cried into him many times after my Nana died, sometimes until I was so exhausted I fell asleep. A little boy I used to mind had a blanket he wouldn't be parted from (we had to wash it while he napped). I just wondered if anyone else has something from their childhood that they turn to when it feels as if life is getting too much to bear (pun intended) or maybe it's something recent that does the same job?

You know I've got to anagram him a dark, dark name, don't you? Dreadsby Nyttime= Minty's Teddy Bear As for me, right now the thing that comforts me the most is 50mg Tramadol. -- Nephele

Not really an object from childhood, but I've always found the constellation Orion comforting, no matter where I am, I can always see Orion, even in the light pollution of a city, it's still easy to find. I don't really know where that comes from, I just realised one night that I always looked for it.

I think my affinity for Orion stems from "The Fellowship of the Ring" (book): 'Then by some shift of airs all the mist was drawn away like a veil, and there leaned up, as he climbed over the rim of the world, the Swordsman of the Sky, Menelvagor with his shining belt.' Chapter "Three Is Company".

I feel the same way about the Moon. I do find a lot of comfort from just staring up at the Moon. (Although Teddy is easier for me to hug ).

I used to say that if the moon was full, then I was protected growing up.
I have my Dollfie Dream, Honoria, who holds the bulk of what I have of Grandma's ashes inside her head.

 Re: Things/objects that comfort you
My wife, my discman, and a good bottle of wine......
Other than that, a good walk near a watery area(ocean, river, etc.) or haunted area (graveyard, old temple, etc.) are enough to make me feel at peace. A place where I can see the vast starry expanse of the night sky (moreso than the moon) is enough to do the trick as well.
I always feel the need to be close to the universe, to feel that, no matter how wrong things go in my little corner of existence, there are still vast expanses of beauty and countless dreamworlds waiting just beyond the verge of our reality.....

Trees, sounds of the ocean. my stuffed bear, Camper, and books. Books have helped me escape from this hurtful world more times than I can count.

Hopeless, that is an awesome song! I used to watch that show frowing up. Minty, that is unbelievably selfish! Why would your uncle do something like that? At least he can't take away y'alls memories of her. *HUGZ*

Minty: Yeah, that's mean. Like Wolfmammy said, at least you still have your memories of her.
The moon and a clear nights sky always comforts me. Either that or a really good book.

 Re: Things/objects that comfort you
Thanks, Wolfie and Ittybitty... I was so angry when he told us. Nana had lived with us for 23 years at the time of her death five years ago, and he scattered her in a place that charges an entrance fee as it's a stately home about 50 miles from our house!! How I didn't punch him I don't know. I agree also about books... Teddy and a good book can make a bad day better

I think you mean "Helsing", not "Hopeless". Hopeless Romantic is a wonderful person, but she's not me. I'm Gabriel Van Helsing.
