Posthumously, she is inspiring a new audience: the LGBT community. Ride was the first known LGBT astronaut.
I actually had no idea who she was until she died. I hope she's found peace.

I didn't know that until I saw it posted somewhere earlier. According to that source, her partner will be denied benefits because of the Defense of Marriage act. Sad.
