Post 9-year-old student calls teacher cute and gets sanctioned
9-year-old student suspended for sexual harassment after calling teacher 'cute,' mother says

Here is the link

This is one of those cases where rationality is replaced with politically correctness, super modern law systems and a tolerance level for normal thinking below freezing temperature.
It's just ridiculous. :(

It also solidifies my theory that there is no significant difference between any two moment in history, no matter how far apart.
The were ridiculous legal action in the past as there are now.

This child said something innocent, in a private discussion. Calling Big Brother....

What are your thoughts?

Actually, there's a huge difference these days compared to how children in the past were treated in the justice system. It is MUCH harsher these days on a child who commits a crime because our society is more concerned with punishment than seeking justice. In the past people would say "Well, this person is obviously a child" and they would be punished according to the law regarding children.

Things just seem to be getting ridiculous these days.

I don't think calling someone cute is sexual harassment at any age. I call people cute all the time and unless I add "but I wonder if you're still cute with no clothes on" and grip their shoulder tight while making low pitched grunting noises at them, it's not really sexual harassment. Even more so if I was an innocent kid.

People choose to get offended at the smallest things, so it's no surprise to me that things like this happen. Some guy got the old Maoam wrappers banned because apparently the fruit on the packets were doing sexual things to each other. So yeah, in the wise words of Slipknot, people = shit.

In my workplace, even telling someone that their hair looks nice, or they have a nice outfit on is considered sexual harassment, no matter what the context or intent. If the person complains, there is automatic disciplinary action.
In today's PC environment, employers and institutions are so scared of lawsuits that policies have descended into the absurd.

In a follow-up to the story, the principal (who admitted that he was wrong to suspend the student and requested an opportunity to apologize to the family) was given one hour by the school superintendent to either quit or be fired. He chose to quit his job.

Quote:
The superintendent told Bostic that 15 parents from the school called his office asking for Bostic’s termination. Bostic said Brookside has more than 1,200 parents. His average evaluation from parents and the community over the past 10 years has been a 98 and 99 percent rating, he said.

Bostic said he didn’t have time to ascertain what would be the best decision, financially, for himself and his family. Nor did he have time to give his staff proper notification that he would be leaving. Bostic said he could understand being written up for his mistake and having someone follow up with him over the school year.

“To me it’s a really sad final note to a career that I have found very satisfying and enjoy working with kids,” Bostic said. “I really don’t believe I was treated fairly.”

More than 600 children will be affected by the decision and around 1,200 parents and guardians will have to explain to their children why their principal was removed from a school after 15 years.

“I made a mistake,” Bostic said. “I offered to apologize for my mistake, but I wasn’t given that opportunity.”

Unfortunately, this sort of stupidity is not isolated. Earlier in December, a 7 year old boy was choked by a bully, and when he kicked he bully in the testicles the school ruled it was "sexual harassment". In the current atmosphere, common sense seems to have gotten tossed out the window.
