Re: I made a HUGE mistake
ghosts was pretty minimalistic, all instrumental, quite a few tracks don't have any guitar or bass. Like I said, How to destroy angels sounds like NINs Ghosts with female vocals. I generally have little to no interest in imagery at all.

Industrial-orientated music i genuinely like:
Killing Joke
Some recent Fields of the Nephilim [not totally industrial metal, but a strong influence on it]
Some Rammstein

I think that I'm allowing my annoyance with Trent Reznor as a person interfere with my appreciation of his music, some of which is admittedly quite good. Damn solemn, self-important, self-righteous prick! HA! You can add Maynard Keenan to the running for 'Biggest Douche'! Milky, I agree. "Nothing to see here, move along!"

I'm not sure anyone can top Lars Ulrich in that regard. At least Tool has talent (mainly thanks to Danny Carey)...

Re: I made a HUGE mistake
Tool is the ultimate in American visual kei...... their visuals and music videos are awesome, but without it, the music sounds nothing more than ultra boring, repetitive alternative rock. In fact, I feel much the same way about Manson, Him, Emilie Autumn, etc. etc. etc.
Metallica may have sucked balls both physically and musically since the 90s, but in the 80s, they still kicked ass....

Tool fits into the progressive/psychedelic rock category far better than the realm of "Alternative rock." I am, of course, referring mostly to their album "Lateralus," since I view it as their most "artsy" creation. A veritable synergy of visceral and cerebral elements (this is both reflected in their music, and lyrics). They employ an atypical use of song-structure, word painting, and most notably, the drums. I also appreciate their cleverness with sacred geometry. That's why I like Tool, anyway.
