 Death/Doom Metal
Hello there. I'm looking for some good recommendations for doom and death metal bands. : 3 I've been looking up stuff but so far nothing to my taste. So I thought I'd ask if anyone on here has anything to suggest. : )

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
I have a long list of doom-death-stoner to run by ya:
To start off-
Deathy things:
Venom-muddy records, but great stuff 1349- just blasphemy. that's all Celtic Frost-Triptikon Tom Warrior's assault Nunslaughter- my favorite, from Cleveland, OH, find them at Hells Headbangers.com
there are sooooo many more.
Doomish stuff:
Pentagram- classic doom.
Electric Wizard-English, slow, slow, and slow.
Black Sabbath- There's no need to say more.
St. Vitus-CA classic doom
Trouble- Chicago based, ignore all claims that they are "Christian Doom."
Stoner stuff:
Spiritual Beggars- Swedish stoner rock with Mike Amot also of Arch Enemy. The Beggars are actually a better band.
Grand Magus-loud, tough, great guitar-heavy stuff.
Orange Goblin- riff-infested hard rock from London, the best party band ever.
Graveyard-also Swedish, but mellow, almost romantic and bluesy.
The Small Stone label in California has a ton of great stoner-hard rock bands on their label, just find their web site and check it out.
There's a whole scene for this stuff...it goes on and on and on.....

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
I really adore Mournful Congregation; it's slow, deep doomy metal. You can listen to some of their music HERE.

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
Saw them live with Corrupted awhile back. Cool show. Cool dudes. Their guitarist is a bigger black metal geek than me, which is always a good sign

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
Best band Michael Amott was in: Carnage. I can't discount Carcass and Candlemass, but I hated the albums he was on. When it comes to Carcass, I prefer their 80s grindcore era, with Reek of Putrefaction and Symphonies of Sickness. Candlemass was always a Black sabbath worshipping band, but I loved them nonetheless. However, later on they really started getting plagiaristic. I didn't really like Dactylis Glomerata. Arch Enemy..... no comment. Lots of people like them....... I don't.

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
I'm with you on that, Centurion. I need to check out Mournful Congregation, though, which I will do tomorrow, when I work my day at the record shop.

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
So I'm surpised no one mentioned Type O Negative here. There music is full of death and doom. It is tragic that Peter Steele passed away last year, so who knows what the band will do next if anything, but thier music is with us for eternity. Anyway, Type O Negative is by far a favorite with me so I recomend you give them a listen. Some of thier songs to check out...
Everything Dies Creepy Green Light Red Water Everyone I Love Is Dead Die With Me Burnt Flowers Fallen
...to name a few. I host a Gothic radio show and these guys are a top request on the show.

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
They were a unique hybrid of gothic/doom metal and punk/thrash/crossover metal (leftover from Peter Steele's Carnivore days). Good stuff, but doom/death generally means doom metal music played with death metal vocals.
Paradise Lost's first album, Lost Paradise would be the perfect example.

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
Well, my favorites are:
-Obituary -Six Feet Under (early stuff dominates, but their later stuff is good too) -Death
I also like Cannibal Corpse, but if you've been looking into Death metal, you've probably already heard them. They were really good with Chris Barnes on vocals, and went downhill with George Fisher taking over. I still like it but I can't help but to roll my eyes at the guys goofy wanna be scary singing and even goofier lyrics. Musically, they're still decent though and still have some of their stuff
Those four bands are the only death metal bands I like and tolerate, I don't really like any of the other bands in the genre (maybe because when I was first getting into the genre, I had recommendations by people who thought Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir were the best death metal bands ever)

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
None of those bands have any doom elements.
I only really liked the first 3 Obituary albums, the rest of their catalogue....... eh, I tend to stay FAAAAAAAR away from anything involving hip-hop grooves and backwards baseball caps!!!!!

 Re: Death/Doom Metal
Yeah, but they are death metal bands, I wasn't describing doom bands :p
With Obituary, World Demise was the last album I heard by them, I didn't give anything after that a listen to at all.
