You considered yourself a christian once? Wow. I never knew that. I seem to recall reading something about how when the album came out and went into Christian stores, Christians heard it and were appalled and refused to by it and had it removed from Christian stores. I am not sure if this is true or not though.

I did consider myself a Christian once (and I sometimes wonder if I still am, occasionally, mostly when I spend time at a forum where I used to work ).

I think I read somewhere, where the music was labelled as Christian although it was not their doing.



Some of the songs sound very Christian to my ears (stuff like Tourniquet). And I really am not a fan of Amy Lee's voice (and in the main I prefer male vocalists over female, except for some exceptions like Siouxsie and Candia Riley).

I thought the lead singer of Flyleaf put it well when she was speaking on the subject of "Christian Rock Band".

"If it means that we’re Christians, then yeah, we’re Christians, but if a plumber’s a Christian, does that make him a “Christian plumber?” I mean we’re not playing for Christians. We’re just playing honestly and that’s going to come out."

I sometimes wonder: what defines a Christian band? I don't want this to turn into the music board's next great debate, but it always seems that bands that aren't deliberately Christian are always labeled as such and vice versa.

And everything that Evanescence touches does exactly the opposite of what their name implies.

I believe the determining factor is their lyrical content - Christian music's primary emphasis is on spreading the word of God, something many people seem to forget when labeling artists that don't perform Christian rock/metal/etc as such, mistakenly choosing to label them solely because of their religious beliefs.

Well, I'm a huge Evanescence fan, they've been my favourite band for over eight years now. I get stick for it, I don't care. Their music has helped me through some of the darkest periods in my life, and I still listen to it when I feel down. Going Under, Whisper, Lithium and Lacrymosa seem to be my especial favourites at the moment. I love Amy Lee's voice, over the years I've discovered many more female vocalists, none I've ever loved so well. I know there are better bands and better singers, but Evanescence will always be my favourite.

Tourniquet is a cover of a song by Soul Embraced, a band Rocky's in. According to Wikipedia, they're a Christian death metal band, which sounds like an oxymoron to me. I did look up some of their songs years ago, and thought they were pretty good.

I'm going to have to double post, (sorry!) as I can't edit my last post.

I got Evanescence's new album as an early Yule present from my ex, It's utterly fantastic (as far as I'm concerned.) I already like it more than The Open Door. And it's the deluxe edition, (extra songs and DVDs always make me happy.) I'm not going to do a review, it would take too long and I can never put into words how songs make me feel, but there are some lovely ballads, (Swimming Home and Secret Door,) and a few songs that make me want to jump around the living room like a large black frog, (What You Want, Sick, Disappear.)

12-13 years of age I LOVED THEM! Fallen and The Open Door were GREAT! But then I found other bands like: Flyleaf, Skillet, The Birthday Massacre, Apocalyptica and after listening to her disappointment of an 'album' I flocked to those bands a bit. But At that time I still listened to her old stuff a lot. Then I found Within Temptation.
Let's just say, I didn't listen to Amy THAT much after that...
