Listen to Sisters of mercy, I'm sure you'll love them

I already listen to them. ;) I would consider them more metal than darkwave though.

Metal? Are you crazy? Bauhaus and sisters of mercy are gothic rock / pos punk... They are likely the first goth bands ever. They are not metal. They are "traditional goth"

I should have been a bit more clear. I meant just Sisters was metal. Not Bauhaus and the rest of them.

Im really not understanding why you would consider anything Sisters of Mercy have done as metal, short of happy hardcore and post punk, I'm struggling to think of two genres more far apart

Hard rock, at most. The Sisters have never been heavy enough to be Metal. Regardless of the deep state of denial Papa Eldritch lives in, they are Gothic Rock.

When I think of Metal, I think of Judas Priest, Death, Kreator, Motorhead....you know, Metal.

Uhhh......Sisters of Mercy is more of the hard rock of Gothic rock, not metal.

Just because they have a very guitar based sound with a driving drum beat doesn't mean they're metal. Hell, Twisted Sister is more on the metal side than Sisters EVER was.

Not to sound like an ass or an elitist (but rather a guy who grew up with a wide range of music around him), but saying that Sisters are heavy metal but it's almost like saying that ZZ Top and Pantera are country bands.

A form of cross-subcultural misunderstandings..... Just like wearing eyeliner does not make a band goth, neither does having a heavy riff or two make a band metal. Joan Jett is not metal, Korn is not metal, Poison, Marilyn Manson, NIN, and Gravity Kills are all not metal, so Vision Thing-era Sisters of Mercy is definitely not metal neither.....

Basically Vision Thing was poppish hard rock, like a mix of their old stuff with a large dose of AC-DC/Def Leppard. Hardly metal at all. "Ribbons" was one of the only songs on that album that could really be described as goth as well, aside from the persistent vocal style, which is just what Eldrich had been doing all along.

Now on to the topic, it will have to wait for my massive 100 band list to be posted here...... stay tuned!!!

Bella Morte's first two albums, 'Remains' and 'Where Shadows Lie'. Although I love all their albums, I do wish they'd go back to their early sound sometime in the future.

Here are some bands that definitely lean towards straight up "goth."
Strap on Halo from Omaha, Nebraska
and
The Hiram Key from London, UK
