Post Getting yellow dye stains out of white satin?
Well, this is probably a hopeless case, but I am feeling rather desperate; I'm wondering if anyone around here has any ideas.

I have a white/cream satin wedding gown from 1942 (it was my grandmother's), and I wanted to wear it for my wedding. However, it was at some point placed in a box with a yellow fabric top, and water leaked into the box through its top, leaving yellow dye spots on the dress. I took it to a wedding dress restorer, and she couldn't get the stains out. Short of dying the thing yellow (a color I hate!) do you think there's anything I can do?

Any and all suggestions much appreciated.

If I remember correctly, there are those kinds of products to remove accidental dye aren't there? I think RIT does one... from when you've accidentally washed a red sock in with your whites. No idea how effective that's going to be on a very old dye stain though. I can't remember what it's called, and I have no idea if it would be successful, especially not with satin.

Speaking of which, being that it's from 1942 I doubt it's poly satin but actual silk satin? That alone might rule out something involving a lot of wetness.

And of course the more controversial idea of soaking in a bleach solution, but that I wouldn't really dare recommend.

Rather than someone who specializes in wedding dresses, I think you may have more luck with someone who does vintage restorations for museums and such.

I don't know if you have a place local to you, but I did find one place on the net that may be able to help you. IFI Services.

At the very least you can shoot them an e-mail and see if they can help you out.

Good Luck!
