Hey there!
I don't know if anyone has brought this up before, but I was thinking that maybe Goth.net could provide extra services on the webspace to those that request them.
Eg.
PHP and MySQL, I know that not alot of people use them, and adding them to the service as standard would be silly, but there are the select few out there who'd like to use them but don't have enough money to use a payed service.
So, its just a suggestion, maybe you could set up a poll or something to see just how many people actually would like to use PHP and MySQL?

Hmmm...
I wonder if it's not more a security issue. MySQL and such things as far as I'm concerned has turned out to be pretty easily exploited, especially if the user who is provided with a DB does not know what he/hse is completly doing...
And as you say, it's a selected few that really wants it, and it would probably mean alot of more work for the administration... Ofcourse it's not up to me to decide, I would love to have access to MySQL (as the site already has support for PHP as I recall when I asked earlier on this year) and could pay for it...

PHP is already enabled for our users as ShadowCrow mentioned.
As for offering database services, I'd have to leave that answer to PreZ.
As for setting up a poll, I don't really see that having a forum poll will be of much use, as the vast majority of our webspace users aren't members of the forums.

GOTH.NET already has PostgreSQL on it. And although currently not offfered to users, it is there, and on special request (on a case by case basis) I would consider giving people their own databases in it.
I much prefer PostgreSQL to MySQL, for several reasons, the main one being that it conforms much more to the SQL standards (including such things as foreign keys, subselects, etc) without the need of third-party additions. I have also not seen any exploits for it, however I have for MySQL.
As for PHP access, by default, it is enabled for all web users, and CGI access is also available for accounts that have sub-domains on GOTH.NET (its not available for all users, however). I am loathe to install a second piece of database software, at least for now, and I have no intention to stop using PostgreSQL.

PHP is already enabled? O.o... thats news to me! :p
I guess having PHP is good enough! I'm greatful And besides, i don't know much about MySQL myself, its just that many of the programs I've seen written in PHP needed MySQL support, but not all - so YAY!
Anyway, thanks for answering!
