Are goths totally acceptable in Germany...? *read more?*
Okay I know this is kinda a dumb question because Germany seems to be where a lot of goths are and there's a lot of clubs in just one city. But are goths there acceptable to get professional jobs, like business, economics, medical, yknow, jobs that are more high class in Germany? I dont know, and I was just wondering because I live in America and from where I live, goths aren't acceptable.

from what I know from Switzerland it isn't really a problem. What can be a problem though are certain haircuts, tatoos, nailpolish etc. in places with hygene regulations (nailpolish in hospitals) and tatoos in banks. I personally haven't yet met a german gothic millionair, but you never know It is quite accepted in Switzerland too, but if you want a job where you have contact to costumers, companies don't like scary looking people understandably. SO, being gothic brings along some difficulties. But it doesn^t have to. I personally don't dress up when I go out during the day, and I know many gothics who do the same. Since their private life is of no one elses business, I don't see why gothics shouldn't get an "ordinary" job. Friend of mine works at a chemistry lab at a University in Germany, according to him Gothics aren't rare in high positions, but I doubt there are statistics on that. We have some german membres, maybe they know better, this is just what I get the impression and what I have heard.

I was just curious, because me and my lover love Europe, especially Germany. I don't want to live in America for the rest of my life, especially in a conservative state. XD; But I totally hear you out! So may I ask, regarding Switzerland and possibly Germany if you know, could you get a high position if you have one or two piercings? Like, do you think there's a level of tolerance that they have when hiring people? What is tolerable to them, or what do you think is? I'm guessing, goths when they want a high position job, they dress seemingly normal but still to their style, or when they go to work, and then when they want to go clubbing or bars, they dress whatever they want.

it's hard to say, always depends on the position, the company and the piercing. if a piercing can easily be hidden or left away during working hours it's no problem, ear piercings are generally accepted too as well as those nostrill type piercings. THink eyebrow piercings are ok too or are amongst the more accepted ones.
Anything else I can't give you info on, as it depends on the employer, the job section and position. I think in Switzerland it's less accepted than in Germany, but that's just my impression.
Goths have to accept the dresscode of course, but no one can keep you from wearing black if not requested differently by the work uniform. There's always a way to get some gothic elements into your clothes and still not get into trouble with the employer.

Alright, thank you. <3 I understand, good information. ^^ And you're right, there's always a way to get some of your style in formal clothing. I've seen some really nice steam punk-esque vests.

What does it mean, be a goth? In a leading business position you can wear clothes which would be acceptable in any goth club as well, but you should not show deviance. They don't accept you if you're living in opposition to the system, because they are the system. You have to cooperate with lots of different people and your life style should'nt be an obstacle. The two goth's I remember who are in good jobs are two doctors. One owns a private hospital and the other is a doctor in the army. I don't think they wear their gothic outfits at work.

It depends on the job. As a social worker you will probably find more employres, who don't care about your look, than as a businessman. On the other hand in the media business there are a lot of scene people. If your style is really extreme (more than bandshirts, black hair, piercings) you usually don't work in your party outfit.

I have been in Germany for a while now and I am very much of the impression, that they are more accepted than in other countries where I have been.
