Post Re: Darkened California - For all those gothic West Coasters
Yeah, as I wrote in my PMs, I rarely have my cell phone on unless I'm going somewhere and meeting people. I don't use my cell as my primary phone line, which I know is not like almost everyone else on the planet. ...But, what can you do? Stuff happens. At least you called. I've tried to meet up with other people in LA and they often don't even call if they decide not to show up. There's so many flaky people in LA, I've pretty much given up hope of establishing a base of friends here. I guess we'll just have to try again in the future.

Disko Nekro is having their last club night at the Dragonfly on Santa Monica Blvd next Saturday, March 19. I hope it's not their last night for good, but it will be their last at the Dragonfly. Would anyone like to meet me there? The DJs in the main room spin 'old school' deathrock/goth (i.e., pre-1995). The DJs in the side room spin 'old school' (pre-'95) EBM/industrial, and outside is the punk rock patio. If anyone would like to join me, let me know.

I can't do anything - the LA Marathon is the following day and I'll be in it (I think - my foot acted up a couple of days ago but I'm still pretty sure I'll be okay to run).
I'm sorry :(

LA goth fans should be more excited about this. They'll be playing at the El Rey in Hollywood on Monday, June 13.

I may try to go to the Perry/Guthrie show. I usually don't go out on a Monday night, but I'll make an exception for legends such as these. Anyone want to go with me?

Hi Lacey-from-the-Valley!

Ms. M - not sure at this point. I have a sore throat and I'm trying to keep this cold at bay. I'll see how I am Friday. Between my foot (although it has gotten better) and my head, I can't win for losin' :(

Post Re: Darkened California - For all those gothic West Coasters
Sorry, I've been away from the site for a bit, so I missed the post on RTB. I found out two weeks ago that I may be losing my job, so I've been a bit preoccupied lately. I work for the LA Unified School District and am one of 5,000 employees who were told two weeks ago that they may be losing their jobs due to budget cuts. I've worked for the district since 2000, and under my current job title since 2005, so it's a pretty big shock to find out I may be losing my job. I've been busy applying to other schools, attending informational meetings about the budget cuts, etc., and Saturday was my birthday, so I've been kind of busy lately. A co-worker took me to dinner on Friday night, so that's what I've had going on. Next month might be better timing for me with RTB.

Thanks for the b-day wishes. But actually, no, getting a lay-off notice is not weird when you work for LAUSD. That's the way they do things. It's all very last minute and they always leave you up in the air. I've worked for them for over 10 years now, so I'm used to how they do things. I don't like it, but I'm used to it.

If I can get a little political here for a minute, for those of you who live in California, if Gov Jerry Brown's special election is called in June, I hope you vote for his tax extension. I know paying more taxes isn't fun, but if Brown's tax hike is extended for 5 more years, it will give the state of California enough money to give to education to help save some jobs, including mine. Seriously. My job depends on it.

Ok, apologies. Political rant over.
