Post Mississippi shout out?
I turned up an editorial from a local newspaper where the author said the mere phrase "Mississippi goth scene" filled him with dread. And well it should.
However, it also seems not to exist.

So I'll be very surprised if anyone answers this at all: any MS goths/ gothy types? Just curious.

*raises hand* Right here and I'm a black one too. That's big no-no around here and makes me even more of an outcast than I already am, not that I give a fuck anymore. I'm not a hardcore goth, but that's better than nothing right? I'm not in love with Mississippi, but I do want to show that not everyone around here is redneck or ghetto.

Awesome. I was beginning to feel like an oddity.

I knew about three black goths/alternative goth-friendly types in college though (four if you count a guy who sometimes dressed up in Victorian gear.) No idea where they are now, except the guy, he wisely moved out of state.

Mississippi has some good points, but sometimes everyone seems insane.

Eh, it depends on the area. "Lucky" me grew up in the stereotypical small country town where everyone was either redneck, ghetto, or ultra conservative with that "good" old southern flavor. Now, I thankfully live in one of those areas where I sometimes forget I live in Mississippi.

Overall, Mississippi is okay. No state is perfect really so I'm not bothered by the bad rep we get anymore. It's not the place to go for a vacation, but great for when you want to retire. Perfect place to come back to after an exciting vacation to "recharge" so I'm probably to going die here unless I get a lucky break that'll make moving out of state worth it. :)

Our largest numbers are probably located in the capitol and college towns. Of course, most of us aren't obvious, since dressing the part is impractical. When I was younger, I hated it, but I don't mind as much any more. The music is the most important part. Too bad there aren't any clubs or cafes that cater to the niche.

I would love to have a chance to go out and hear some music I like. (Yeah, there's New Orleans, but gas costs a lot.) I'd organize an event myself, but I have a feeling most people wouldn't like the music.

I live in Gulfport. There is actually a goth looking group at one of the rougher bars here. I don't goth it up though so I've never talked to then. Just drink me alcohol, shoot pool, and sing karoake.

I live in Meridian. I get bored in the town. It's small and everyone seems to know everyone. You have cousins after cousins after cousins. It's a full redneck banaza here. I love goth guys :D They are usually smarter, more reasonable, and more interesting. Goths like to hang out a Books-A-Million, I think. I do anyway. I've seen some supposedly "goths", but I think they were just playing the scene. They didn't seem to know what they were doing because once I started talking to them, they had no clue what I was saying, even on band wise. It was so sad.

I was in Meridian not to long ago actually. I was driving through on my way back from Tuscaloosa.

I'm in North Mississippi in a town smaller than the airport where I used to live. I love it! :D

It's good to see more people posting. I like to think that there are at least ten MS goths out there for every one that posts on the site. If you're like me, we're hard to spot. I almost never dress the part.
