I was thinking I'd get a discussion going on. I've been single for a while, now. Every single relationship I've been in have been hook-ups or friends of friends. I'm terrible at meeting people so I turn to web! Has anyone tried Gothpersonals.com or GothicProfiles.com? I'm signing up for them now.

Anyone know of some good alternative ones? I've browsed through Match.com and Yahoo Personals, etc, but I'm not feeling those much.

I haven't used it personally, but I know two people who found each other via gothicmatch.com/... He was in England, and she was in the states. Now they are married.

eHarlequin.com I hear is good. I haven't used it, but the commercials say that it actually works. Just don't believe everything that commericals say.

I don't know about the goth sites, but my friend (who's not a goth) used some of the regular sites and it didn't really work. She didn't meet any psychos, but she still had the same problems she normally has when dating --people not being all that interesting after the intial pitch, people not calling her back, people looking for a different kind of relationship, etc. We both came to the conclusion that online dating is about the same as regular dating; you have to go through a lot of people that aren't that great to get to the one that is.

I agree with Kitsune.I've had online relationships before, and it is the same as regular dating. However, you will have some other problems. You might have long distances between you,and it is hard on people to love one so far away. You can't feel each other. If you are not able to meet the person soon, and that person cannot handle that, then you're better off moving on.

Also, with online dating,I tend to reveal more about myself and learn more about the other person. You don't get that with regular dating,or at least not as soon.

I had to get through a lot of people that were not great at all.The good thing is that you're exposed to more people, especially if you're shy.

Oh,and I did meet my perfect match online. We've been together for a year now.

I too met my girlfriend online, although that was several years ago, back when the Internet wasn't full of perverted old men pretending to be 13 year old girls/boys.

I've had a couple of relationships that started online. They were both wonderful but the distance problem really became a problem in the end :(

Thanks.

I think I may try. Or maybe try the club scene again. I haven't been on an actually date in 3-4 years. (For the last year, I've been concentrating strictly on school and having fun being single. As for the rest, I was in a steady relationship.) Saying I haven't dated in so long makes me feel sooo old. I'm on 23.

You realize Goth.Net isn't a dating service right? There are Google Ads at the top left corner, and at least one of them is an online dating service for goths and punks.

Indeed.
So please restrain your dating impulses, Shadow_Sentinel. It won't get you far here. People come here to talk.

And broken, thanks. We've got this covered. If there's an issue just report it to a mod.

You're young, don't think so much about it. It always happens when you *aren't* actively looking, anyway.

re the original topic

I don't have to tell you to bring a friend along for the first meeting, right? You can always tell the friend to piss off if you want some alone time with the person you're meeting, but it's probably best to have somebody around.

I signed up for OK cupid a while back. I have determined that thus far all the compatible gay men are very very far away, but if I want to date a woman, there are scads of them waiting for me in Ontario. So i wouldn't reccomend that one.

And don't limit yourself to goths. there are plenty of wonderful people out there who've never heard of siouxsie
