as I just broke 100 posts (YAY), I decided to finally look for an avatar. I found something I like, a picture of Eldrich (I guess, it's been edited in photoshop. so it's hardly recognisable). However, on the bottom of the page it says that the entire contents of the page is protected by copyright.
Should I load it up?

It's the one on top of the sisters homepage.

I very much doubt Andrew Eldritch is going to emerge from his German castle and drive to your house in his pink caddillac just to beat you up for using a picture of him for an Avatar.

Still, stranger things have happened...

Just go for it. :)

In the US at least, if you edit at least 10% of an image, it becomes yours. I know it doesn't seem fair to the person who took the photo, but it's true. So I don't think anyone willing to pursue such a minute thing would even have a leg to stand on either way.

Do you have any more information on that, because I'd definitely be interested in reading some more?

Let me do some research to find written documentation to back that up, but it was mostly something that was discussed while S was in school for graphic design. It had been seconded by a photographer I know and had modeled for.

Find someone who is willing to host it for you. There is no mechanism in place to simply upload one of your own to the board.

You don't.

One way or another it has to be online on webspace that allows direct-linking, whether yours or whether you get someone else** to host it for you.

** Someone else being someone you've asked to host the image for you, not you linking to someone else's picture somewhere else without their knowledge. People find that rude.

Not to mention when people find out they find it funny to exchange it with an offensive picture.

Although in the same situation i'd do the exact same thing. ;)

Please refrain from posting responses that amount to nothing more than "me too". We appreciate stuff with actual meaningful substance around here.

Did you happen to notice that this thread is 3 years old? I am sure they have figured it out by now. Please refrain from dredging up what are essentially dead conversations and be sure to read the Forum Rules &tm; posted at the top of each section.
