Codes for links, images, etc.
I notice lately that a lot of our users are having problems posting links and images and whatnot without losing the link due to truncation, or simply posting huge images directly in their posts so I thought I would do a little how-to for you all. The editor is ok for doing this quickly, but here are a couple of more advanced moves to make your stuff look more slick. Just
remove the curly brackets which I added to show you what's what.
LinksThe usual code for a link is {[url]}www.goth.net/forums{[/url]} which ends up looking like this
http://www.goth.net/forums. This simple code is WAY better than just letting the editor do your link as it would with
www.goth.net/forums which could wind up truncating and thus breaking your link.
A better way to write your links (imho) is as such:
GN Forums which you would write like this {[url=http://www.goth.net/forums}]GN Forums[{/url]} thus maintaining the integrity of your link and making huge links more manageable.
ImagesSimilarly with images many people are posting them directly by using {[img]}http://questionabletopic.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/emo-vs-goth.jpg{[/img]} like this:

As above, you can simply use the second [url] code to post a link to your image rather than posting the image directly.
Note: if you post an image that is HUGE and messes up the frames it will be removed by a mod so it is generally preferred that you just link the image. If anyone knows of any other codes to help users make their posts easier on the eyes (so long as the codes abide by the forum rules, i.e. no codes to mess with the forums formatting), feel free to post.
