Well I consider myself a Trad Goth with Cyber Goth Tendencies. I always have because of the way that I met my husband years ago. I thought this would be a good thread just to hear everyones thoughts on what they consider themselves to be.

I'm definitely a blend, I lean towards Victorian, vampire, romantic Goth. But really it is hard for me to pin down what I am.

I'd consider myself romantic/Victorian, in line with my overall interests in gothic culture. But, I'll listen to anything.

I mostly seem the Traditional Goth bit, by my music tastes and typical dress.


Though I do love some Victorian wear.

I've had a love /hate relationship with Goth and have gone in and out of labeling myself as such. I've tried out every sub-type I can think and none of them seemed to feel like 'me'. I started out as Grunge-Goth, then Vampyire Goth (with a bit of Victorian & medieval thrown in), then a kind of Vinategy Goth, then fetishy, then industrial and punk influenced, then Cyber. After all that I'd have to say that I'm 'Gothic' rather than 'Goth' (post punk).

If I had to pin it down I'd say I was coming from a basis of 'Noir' rather than Goth- my ideal is the 40's femme fatales and 20's vamps- with influences of industrial and fetish- something I now know is known as DIESELPUNK.

If I really considered myself Goth, I would probably be a Geek Goth.

Except that I am far, far, far more Geek than Goth.

There are certainly aspects about several of the other 'types' that I find appealing, however.

Mostly, however, while I find the process of categorizing and labeling fascinating (I'm not one of those, 'No! No labels ever!' types, since I think it's natural for humans to try to sort out their world in their search for comprehension and meaning), I tend to leave it to others to decide what they think I am than fuss about it myself. I mean, they will anyway.

According to traditional goth labels I would be a mix of Perky and Nerdy Goth. I may not be cheery all the time, but my facade is generally rather cheerful,I like things to be both spooky and cute and generally have a more more light-hearted approach to the subculture. I am also a somewhat dedicated fan of Tabletop RPG's, sequential art (cartoons and comics), video games and childhood nostalgia. Of course that may not be very goth at all.

I would prefer to label myself an obnoxious hipster goth though, considering my tendency to talk about how great thing X you've never heard of is, and how I don't care for thing Y just because it's popular.

I can dress in different looks depending on my mood. So much of the music appeals to me that I can't pick just Trad, Deathrocker, Romantic, Vampire, Cyber. I do tend to look more like a Rivethead with my cargos, tanks & headbands when I'm casual.
