HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS AN AWESOME EPISODE! I knew Rick was going to go back for that asshole, but the motivation for it worked better than I thought it would! And that twist ending! Hot damn! The whole Rick/Shane/Lori dynamic worked perfectly! OMG this series kicks SO much ass!

Agreed! Plus, tonight I got my secret codeword to enter the "stagger-on role as a zombie" contest that LegendGirl had mentioned. Wheee!

It's an amazing show; i'm kind of upset the first season has only 6 episodes. But on the bright side the second season is already signed up for thirteen. Anyone else wish that the main guys wife would just hurry up and get eaten already?

Does this zombie uprising mean Twilight is soooo last year? I've noticed the local SiFi shop has been stocking up on zombie paraphernalia of late.

If so, great. If it means the vampire bubble has burst then all power to zombies - perhaps vampire movies will return to being half-decent.

Don't know if this is a spoiler or not since the episode has aired, but: Racist Man failed the "survival of the fittest" test that Racists often espouse, stupidly babbling to himself for hours and only trying to reach the hacksaw when the Walkers were literally at the door....[EDIT: Spoiler black-out added. That is a spoiler. Please, everyone, lets use the spoiler blackouts as a courtesy to those who haven't yet seen the episodes. I almost didn't watch Episode 3 last night. Give it at least a week (since AMC runs repeats) before you no longer consider it a "spoiler." -- Nephele]

The others stated that his recent actions had presented a clear and present danger to the rest of the group. (I'm assuming he had been acting okay before then.) I'm guessing either the prospects of being trapped in Zombieville, Georgia on top of a roof combined with the effects of exposure (especially away from his precious alcohol) weren't taking a good toll on him. That, and he had to be, what, in his fifties? That probably wasn't helping, either, especially if he wasn't in good shape or his only diet up 'til then consisted of whatever he could catch and toss into the deep frier. [EDIT: Spoiler black-outs. added. -- Nephele]

Anyone else wish that the main guys wife would just hurry up and get eaten already? No, although she and Shane really need to own up to what they were doing and the fact that they didn't wait for a proper grieving period. Yes, it was natural to assume that since the hospital was over run that he was dead. I don't think his wife is a whore that needs to die, any spouse would have thought the same in that situation(unless they were hoping for some ex machina, which normally doesn't happen). She could have waited, though. Mourned her husband for a while and then moved on. They couldn't have been out of town that long. The greater sin, to me, is attempting to procreate in those circumstances.
I do feel bad for Shane, though. Poor guy gets his heart stomped on and then everyone looks at him like he's crazy for knocking the shit out of a scumbag that's beating his wife? What.the.FUCK????? Poor guy can't win for losing. I'm all for leaving marital problems between the married couple until there's abuse involved.

Poor guy can't win for losing. I'm all for leaving marital problems between the married couple until there's abuse involved. Well, the thing is, she blames Shane for telling her that her husband was dead. The comic reveals more about Shane's motivations, but I won't give that away here. Moreover, you've got to realize the effect of human emotions in such a dramatic time. First off, the sex isn't for procreation. It's more like the whole "I love you" sex kinda thing. She's not trying for a baby necessarily. It's just a release/a display of emotions/et cetera. Here is where I agree with the comics more than the series. In the comic, Shane and Lori had sex once, right after they saw what happened to Atlanta, and both agreed it was a mistake (though Shane didn't seem to think so). In the comics, they didn't have an actual relationship. Shane was acting like the leader/father figure, but that was it. He wanted more from Lori, but she wasn't ready to give it to him yet.
In the series, I could see this as pure human stupidity: Lori is grateful to Shane for everything, and because he was an old family friend and all she had left of her husband, she willingly became "his", although not completely (as the fact that she still has her wedding ring shows). She hasn't healed yet, and she isn't giving herself time to because she isn't thinking about that. All she knows is that she needs someone to help her and her son survive, and until her husband "came back from being dead", so to speak, Shane was it. It's understandable, and it's human. A desperation move, sure. Illogical, certainly. Irrational? You bet! When are humans not irrational? Wise? Not at all! But human nonetheless.
To me, this makes Shane look like a jerk. He's willing to allow Lori to be with him even though she obviously isn't ready to move on (though she's telling herself she is either for her son's sake or because she doesn't know what else to do)? I know he wants her, but a real gentleman - hell, a real man - would recognize that she needs some space and give that to her. He ought to know what the grieving process should be like; he has probably had to deal with people who have just lost a loved one in his job as Sheriff's deputy, right? I'm not being unreasonable by expecting that, am I? But no, he moves in on her because he wants her. And everyone's all "poor Shane!" Bleh. I have no pity for him. (Then again, I have read the comic, so I'm kind of biased.)EDIT: Good God, all these blacked-out lines... Looks like a declassified government document!

Re: The Walking Dead on AMC cable channel
It's all a conspiracy!! I understand that the sex wasn't for procreation, but they should have enough common sense to realize what could happen from it. Or maybe I'm the only person who worries about other people's issues needlessly complicating my life? One gun, two bullets, leave them with the zombies. I don't see it as him moving in on her, right now. Maybe subsequent episodes will reveal otherwise? Right now, yes I feel sorry for him. It's a shitty thing to start a relationship with someone and then shove them away when your first choice enters back into the picture. I haven't yet seen anything that would make me think that Shane is the bad guy in that situation, yet. Takes two to tango.

[EDIT: Spoiler black-outs. added. -- Nephele] He looked like he was in very good shape. He was more physically powerful than many in the group. (Age is not necessarily a defining factor: I know people in their 50's who are in better shape than some people in their 20's.) As far as diet, he was doing no worse than anyone else, and frankly, no one seems to be in starvation mode.
