It's curious... This is such a simple little song, and yet... It always sends shivers down my spine; it has a lot to do with the interplay between guitar, mandolin and the buzzing autoharp... And the song itself is so curious; I have no idea how old it is, yet I gather that it's something of an archetype.

First group that pops to mind for this would be The Devine Madness, instruments and vocals lull me to a calm mind-state every time I hear them.

Obviously Sopor Aeternus, Dead Can Dance and Dark Sanctuary would have to be included. I would also add Faith and the Muse and All About Eve to that.
The next few songs some might disagree with, but I suppose each to his/her/its own:
'Sacrifice' by London After Midnight 'Winterborn' by The Cruxshadows 'Corn King' by Inkubus Sukkubus 'Enjoy the Silence' and 'But Not Tonight' by Depeche Mode 'The Last Day of Summer', 'Lovesong' and 'Plainsong' by The Cure 'Last Night I Dreamed That Somebody Loved Me' by The Smiths 'Share This Poison' by Razed in Black 'We're In This Together' by Apoptygma Berzerk 'Fallen Angel' by L'ame Immortelle
Lots more but I can't think at the moment. These are the examples that stay in my mind.
Edit: Thought of another one (at least for me): 'Butterfly on a Wheel' by The Mission (UK)

Plectrude, I love Celtic harp music, and I'm going to guess that you're familiar with the works of Turlough O'Carolan?
Hadn't heard of Adrian von Ziegler before, but thanks for that link! I'm definitely going to invest in a cd of his music. So impressed am I by him, that I am compelled to honor him with a darkly anagrammed name:
Azriel Dragonvine = Adrian von Ziegler

Re: What is the most beautiful music you listen to?
As I was trying to post this last night and the forum ate my post and then crashed, I'll write it again, lol. Some more beautiful classical music that I would recommend is The Swan and The Aquarium, both from The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. Also Faure: Requiem (In Paradisum) (which if memory serves me correctly is the music that can be heard playing over Inspector Morse dying in The Remorseful Day, and I admit I cried when he died and cannot watch this episode anymore... even more poignant in that John Thaw died a few years later, too ). The man that composed the theme and incidental music from the whole Morse series, Barrington Pheloung is also a very talented composer and he is also very under-rated, some of his work here.

Re: What is the most beautiful music you listen to?
I'd say it's Mozart's Requiem - both the classic piece and the metal adaptments (a band called Liva has a whole album made of requiem words, and it's very cool).
