Post Reactions of Disgust
This may be an unattractive subject for some, but honestly I'm just curious.

I'm sure you've been heckled before for your outright gothiness, but has there ever been an instance when a person (or group) has downright retched at your appearance and nearly confronted you for whatever reason?
Awkwardly worded, kind of scatterbrained right now.

Note: This is not a self-pity thread, for those of you that may use this lifestyle as a scapegoat for your insecurities...So, no whining about gothecution...

Post Re: Reactions of Disgust
Well, so far, I've only had one person say anything to me about the way I dressed and it was actually nice, but other than than not really.

I'm not completely outright in my gothiness in my opinion. Yes, I tend to wear a lot of black and have maybe two accessories that would be considered gothy (for example, today was a black T-shirt, black dickies, black shows, a leather wristband with skulls painted on it as always, and an ankh as always. This is the typical look for me, other than an occasional black & gray or black & red dickies shirt).

The only time I can really think of is that once I went out to get some food with family, and I walked past an older guy as I was getting a refill, and the guy looked at me head to toe and then glared at me, and I repeatedly noticed he was looking at me after I sat down. I just smiled and went along my very merry way.

That's all that I've noticed. I have my natural hair color, no piercings, and no ink, so...yeah, lol

The absolute BEST reaction I have gotten was when I was at a Flea Market with my baby girl and a bunch of teens seen me and started singing the Addamms Family theme song. They get superficial Goth points for knowing the song.

Omg, that's hilarious! I don't think I'd be able to help but dance along if that happened to me hahahaha

I have yet to get heckled or anything. I think it does depend how extravagant your appearance is and where you present yourself. I'm lucky enough to live in the "artsy", more alternative part of my city so people around here are used to seeing different expressions.

Gray, have you actually had a reaction of "disgust" aimed at you, or are you just curious?

No abuse for looking gothy (but then I get enough for being fat, so the goth-abuse gets sidetracked by the fat-abuse)... but I was collecting a girl from a Roman Catholic school once and the little kids started a whisper as I walked in that went something like this "look, look, it's a witch!" "that lady is a witch" (oh the irony of my being pagan and them not even knowing). It made me smile

Sadly it's only happened the once, and I no longer go to that school, but I can still remember the looks of fear on the kids faces, I liked that, in an evil way - and when I smiled at them, they ran off ;) Wish I had the same effect on most adults

Music-wise I'm pretty goth, but I rarely dress like it. I change up my clothing style so much that people don't really call me "goth" or "emo" unless I'm decked out in black and I put my hair up. Most of the time I dress pretty girly. Haha, the exact opposite of half the people on this site, I'm sure.

But my friend dresses super-gothy. She does makeup, black, puts her hair up...the whole nine. So the kids in our school see her dress like this everyday, and they chose THIS PARTICULAR DAY to harass her. They called her "emo ho" and "freak" and shit like that. Then they (boys) preceded to make nasty gestures in her direction. She's such a doll, she just laughed, said "fuck you" and kept on walking.

Smart girl. :)

I got that a few times, but by friends who think black = emo.

I'm not emo, I dislike even the word, so yeah, lol

Same here. Often when someone calls me a Witch I laugh and ask them what their point is and they always end up shutting up very quickly...

Hmm, another reaction of disgust...It is hard to say because people do say a bunch of shit to me often. I remember at Wal-mart an employee flat out refused to help me because of my goth appearance. And yes- I reported his ass. I hope he got fired.

I used to hear the Mexican kids whisper "El Bruja!" when I did my laundry at the apartment laundromat. I thought it was hilarious, too.

I don't think I've ever seen an outright reaction like that.

In fact, if someone did react like that I wager you'd never know as they would keep it to themselves.

I've found the more vocal of people aren't really serious and are just "being dumb" (as my partner would put it).

Wow, I come back after a few days and my thread actually has activity - rejoicing!

I've had people harp on me all the time, especially since I live in a suburb now. I don't really have major stories, probably because I forgot about them due to my lack of concern. It's mostly just little comments all year round that I don't take too seriously, especially directed at my New Rocks and my hair...but really. I've noticed it's mostly from Freshmen and other prissy seniors. Not sure why.
