Cool on Windows XP but I won't use Vista. I'd like to get Windows 7 Pro 64 bit tho! BTW, welcome to the site!

Vista is okay(still find it funny my XP works faster than it does). I don't do anything hardcore that would require an upgrade. Still, having Windows 7 is very tempting. :)

I've heard very good things about Windows 7 Pro. And I have an AMD 64 CPU so I'd really like to see what the 64 bit version can do!

Having a 64-Bit Windows 7 Home Edition on this computer, and I can say that I'm pretty happy with the 64-bit windows. I don't really need or want the higher end of windows, nothing on there I feel like I gotta have or would make me feel like I was missing out on with the Home Edition.

I had Vista; it was horrible. Windows 7 runs so much "cleaner" than Vista does.

It's what I have. I can honestly say it works really well. Didn't get ultimate; don't really need that many bells and whistles.

Win 7 Pro works for those who do a great deal of multitasking like I do. As many programs as I run at once, you'd think I have ADD.

For a home computing environment, there is often little reason to use 64bit windows. The primary advantage is it's ability to allot more then 4GB of RAM to a single application. This would be useful if you had say 8GB of RAM and you were doing some heavy CAD work or 3D modelling.

For the most part the 64 bit version of windows does not have good support from the software community. Most internet plugins like Flash or Java do not work well or at all in 64bit IE, so the default browser is the 32bit version anyways. Virtually no games, or "home" software require / use 64bit, as it is not standard or common in the home environment. It will all run in 32bit compatibility mode anyways.

These and many more issues come up over and over again. I'm not saying you won't see an advantage in using it, as I do not know what your computing requirements are, however if you have 4GB or less RAM, or you are not running vary large PhotoShop files (larger then 1.5-2GB), SolidWorks, 3DSMax or something of that nature... save yourself the head-aches and pick up Win 7 32bit (but not "Starter"...)

Well, I only have 4GB of RAM in this machine but I've found no headaches other than some unrelated issues, such as forgetting to install a driver

Besides, I have the 64-Bit for when I do upgrade and need it, I don't need to go out and buy myself a new OS. It's already there.

And Riena, off topic, but is that Major Kusanagi for your icon? It looks like her from the first film.

Very nice! When I have the money I want to get Windows 7 Pro 64 bit full. :)

As far as OS goes I used to run Linux as my main but recently went to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (Still running Linux as VM)

I built my rig:

AMD Phenom II Quad Core 3.4Ghz
16G DDR3 Ram
2x 1TB Hard Drives
500GB Hard Drive
2x ATI Radeon HD 5770 Video Cards
750watt PSU
TV Tuner

I'm going to school for IT so luckily I can justify so much power :P

As to some of the above:

64bit operating systems also run 32bit software just fine. If whatever you want to install doesn't have a 64bit version then just download the 32bit installer and you will be fine.

@Zoldos

The 64bit version is VERY capable assuming you have high enough hardware specifications. I was able to run 4 virtual machines at once on mine, plus watch videos on netflix and use Microsoft Office, at the same time. If you are interested in 64bit definitely give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Yes, that is her and it wasn't easy to find that avatar since so many people flock to the TV series version(I do like the TV series. I just prefer the movies). I'd been watching a good bit of Ghost in the Shell lately for old times sake and realized as I became older, I started to see a good bit of myself in her so I decided she would be the perfect avatar for me to use.

Arh, a shitty laptop with Vista my mom bought me years ago. Planning on building my next one, probably with Linux or Win 7, haven't decided yet.

Nice system! I have an AMD dual core FX60 @ 2.6 gig (it's 5 years old, but it still has some pep!). I just bought Windows 7 64 bit Pro full as well as 2 more gigs of RAM (for a total of 4, the highest my MB will support). I also got a 2TB hard drive, a 750 watt "Gamer Series" power supply, and a Geforce GTX 580 graphics card with 1.5 GB of video ram. It's on the way, and I'm very much looking forward to it!!

I've been using XP for longer than I care to remember. But I've heard great things about Windows 7 so we'll see!

Hi there,
I'm running Linux Mint 11 (32bit Gnome desktop) on a Asus 1015PX netbook (N570 dual core + 2Gb RAM

I tried out the Mint 12 release in Nov'11 but a couple of bugs crashed the Banshee media player and froze the Gnome3 desktop, so I regressed back to the ultra stable Mint 11.

Mint come complete with all the video and audio codecs, printer, scanner and wireless drivers, not to mention the full LibreOffice suite, straight out of the box (er, make that download ?!?!)

All for FREE !

I also have a Acer 1540 series laptop running Ubuntu with the Unity desktop.

I'm using most of a PC that was built for me and my music --of course, after moving last year, something damaged the motherboard and/or CPU, and since that was a smaller case necessitating smaller parts in those areas, it was hard to test to see which part actually broke, so I had to Frankenstein together everything I knew was good from that one with something I found on Craig's List, and still really haven't been able to replace everything due to money --which is tits for me, cos the cord to the sound card and its 1/4" jack for my viola can't reach the power supply on this case, so this whole time, I've been unable to record any instrument tracks for anything (unless, of course, I want street sounds or crazy neighbours in the background).
