Seeing as the other Intro thread seems to have gone the way of the dodo, a new one.

For those of you new to the forums who wish to introduce yourself, this is the place to do it. Please try and say something about yourself rather than 'hi, I'm new here', that part we already know ;)

If you have nothing interesting to say, you don't have to write an intro... it's not mandatory, but we thought a thread like this would be nice for those people who want to say something, and a place to combine those posts rather than have lots of seperate ones.

Welcome!

Well, I did somewhat introduce myself, but I decided to post up here, telling a little bit about myself, but just the things that would seem most important.

NAME: Stephanie
AGE: 15
SETTING: Tennessee
INTRUMENTS: I am obsessed with drums and everything about them and I also play piano as well
PETS: One dog, four cats and too many snakes and lizards to count
FAVOURITE BANDS: System of a Down, Disturbed, Korn, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311..etc...etc.
HOBBIES: Snake handling, playing drums and piano and staying home... ( what an exciting life I have!! )

Alright, I think that pretty much up everythin about me. If there is anything you all want to know.. you know the drill, just ask away. :D

I don't know if it's really appropriate (sp?) to post a welcome message to every user in an introduction-thread but atleast it's polite.

I've already introduced myself but it seems a little too soon, NOW there is an Introduction thread!!! If only i could have been a little bit more patient. Oh well :? .Anyways, hello to all again!

-Fist the Newbie.

p.s. Why do some threads become locked at times? im assuming its to stop a thread continuing for good reasons. But i would like to confirm that, or find the truth.

My initial self intro can be found in proper context here, 9 responses down from the top:

Other than that,...I look forward to some intelligent conversation.

That can happen because of a couple of reasons:

1) The thread is a total head-in-ass-post that does not display little or no interlectual value (ex. "Am I goth", "How do I tell my parents that I am goth and pregnant with a 40 year old priest", etc).
2) The thread is started by someone who did not do a search to see if there existed a thread like it before (tip for newbies: use search-button alot) and therefore creating second thread about the same topic.
3) Someone digs up an old thread that has been discussed alot, dragged out and shot, without being locked or deleted.

I am sure the moderators have their own obscure reasons for closing some topics to and not all topics can be put under any of the descriptions above.

If I forgot any reason to why a topic can be closed, oh whatever: You'll notice!

Oh, and Fist, please, spare us the signature "Fist the newbie" since it makes me fall off the chair out of laughter and my keyboard wet with tears everytime I see it.

ShadowCrow already covered most of the bases.

Usually threads are closed when they're overly repetitive and if it's something that's been asked 300 billion times already and can easily be answered by looking through the forums, a search engine or the GOTH.NET site proper.

Then there are the posts that are closed for just being utterly pointless and stupid. We try and maintain some level of cerebral stimulation here.

Other than that it's usually when discussions end up being too heated or when it's obvious that there will be no resolution... when meaningful debate just ends up being meaningless to-ing and fro-ing of the same ideas where neither party is prepared to shift or consider the other's view. Sometimes you just need to agree to disagree and leave a discussion topic alone.

Stuff that's inflammatory, insulting, disrespectful etc. is generally nipped in the bud too. Trolls and troublemakers aren't welcome around here. All too often can the atmosphere of a board get destroyed by people hellbent on wreaking havoc.

And as SC mentioned, when old old threads get dragged up that haven't been responded to in months, and in many cases they end up being questions by people who've long since abandoned the board for other pastures, so responding to that months hence isn't going to be very helpful.

I love the fist the newbie signature. I vote for keeping it! Maybe we should use that as an initiation technique? Of course current members are exempt!

-Fist ;)

I think the lubricant depends on whether our newbie is good or bad ;)

:b Shadow, you do make me laugh so much. Warms my cold, bitchy heart.

WELCOME to the newbies (whom I will not be fisting, thank you very much) and please continue to post intelligently and we will all get along just fine. :D
