Post Smile or Scowl
I know that for us black-clad followers, we have a reputation of not liking happiness, even though that is far from true. Something else that comes along with that assumption is that the lot of us don't like to smile in photos, which - well, I dunno. I look at a lot of gothic photography and a big chunk of it has folks that put on their "grrrr" face (but it could also be how one applies their makeup - and their eyebrows for that matter) or are just really somber looking. However, I do see some smiles that peek through, though it's not surprising that these mostly come from the perkier goths.

But what about you? Do you tend to scowl or smile in your photos? I, admittedly, am a smiler when it comes to photos. Call it vanity on my part, but most photos that I take where I am smiling look great on the first shot, but when I try to remain emotionless or have that "grrrr" face, I find myself taking several shots before I can find one or two that don't look so forced.

I personally think that there are some people who do make good frowners in photos, but then there are some people who are just meant to griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

I generally smile a lot.
Nearly every candid shot of me, has me smiling, but If I know a picture is being taken I generally try not to smile, because I just don't like the way I look in pictures when I smile.
Though I do for family photos.
I wouldn't say I scowl though, I aim for a neutral expression, I don't always quite hit the mark, but thats what I usually go for.

I don't like to smile in photos ever. Especially after the incident with my daughter that caused me to lose one of my front teeth. If I do smile, it is seldom open mouthed, but a small raising of the lips. So yeah, I normally frown.

My initial instinct is to go for a neutral expression or a slight frown. Although, if a smile is required I put on my 'photo smile'. My 'photo smile' is obviously different from my usual smile- my usual smile looks kinda like more of a grimace than a smile tbh. I am known to go for a more 'honestly-do-you-really-expect-me-to-smile' look with maybe an eyebrow raise, unless a 'photo smile' is required.

I smirk more often now . . . but I used to be *very* scowl-y. I gave the kid from the cover of Angela's Ashes a run for his money :P

Here's the scowling child, for those who've never seen the cover I'm talking about -

I'm not a smiler unless i'm at work, then i'm forced to be smiling and acting like a bimbo. I prefer a neutral expression. It keeps me out of trouble! lol

But, really. I don't like to show off the gap in my front teeth.

I think my face looks terrible when I smile. My cheeks are huge and make me look like I have a huge balloon head.

And when someone sees a photo of me not smiling I get the typical "you're so pretty when you smile" crap. I smile in most of my photos, but I'm actually a scowler/glower-er. I do have a couple of pix that seem to say "When I catch you, I'm going to eat you so make the chase worth it!"

Midi...you're life sounds painful indeed. :o

Hopeless..there are men who LOVE gap-toothed women. There was a TV show about them years ago, but I can't find it just know.

WM...join Midi, would you? She'll move over.

I clicked "smile"...because I'm laughing at how stupid people are. (That's nobody here, of course. )

I smile.

It's not a smile you normally want directed at you though.

i'm usually smiling on the inside... :P however that rarely translates into much other then a disapproving glare on the outside... I've gotten much better over the last few years, however my reputation as "the fun police" has been rather difficult to shake...

i think it's rather unfair actually... cause i'm "always" having fun, some people just don't have the sense of humour required to observe it :D

I tend to smile... probably because I have so much I could scowl about

It seems to shock people when I smile, so I do it all the more, or more probably because I'm not one of life's gifted pouters (I look like I'm badly constipated!) and scowling just gives me a headache after about ten minutes... so smiling it is.

Having said that, though, my expression is mostly neutral, except with people I know well and then I do this -----> :D more often then not.
