Okay. I, myself didn't say these things but this is a site (and I know many people not on the site) who will argue that Goth, Emo, Prep, Moshers, Scene and any other subcultures are all bullshit because they are exactly like everyone else and are just 'posers'. I don't agree with this but wait, there's more: They will also bash anyone who isn't 'normal' and there are SOOOO many goth posers that people hate us now and they will argue that in the real world, people want to hire people that'd be good for the job, not pretentious idiots that run around saying 'Look at me, I'm so gothic!' for the sake of crappy fashion. Corsets were all the fashion...back in the 1800's. They say. Saying that you even belong to a subculture in the first place is very immature, subcultures are very childish things and anyone dressing like this past the age of 16 needs special help or seriously need to get over themselves. They say.

I want to know what your opinions are on this.

I'm on neither side. I'm just interested to hear your thoughts.

Honestly, the site is meant to be a joke. I don't take it as some holy trinity of sorts. I mean, I'm almost 24 and still dress in my Goth attire. XD

But I mean, like, I've met people who've actually taken this site seriously and said how we're all 'posers' and shit like that.

Yeah, OLD people. It's a generational gap more than anything. Most people in their 40s or 50s don't understand goths. You need to be a teeanger, a yound adult, in your 20s (like me) or in your 30s to understand them.

I agree that it's immature to be part of a subculture if you are labeling yourself "goth" "emo" "mosher" for the sake of trying to belong to a group, or to make yourself "unique" and super cool because nobody else dresses and listens to the same music as you. If you just so happen to fall into a subculture because of your genuine interests and fashion sense, it's not so much immature as it is being an individual, choosing to like and dislike things as every individual does. I'd say it's more immature to target and slate a subculture because you happen not to fall into (or be mistaken for) being part of a subculture yourself and are (for lack of a better word) mainstream.

Following social norm isn't mature really, it's just following social norm, maturity doesn't really play a part in things. Live and let live, I say, anyway.

Thanks. I just wanted to know your opinions on this because it's something I wanted to ask for a long time and since I'm a Baby Bat; who better to ask than people who have been in the scene for longer?

I agree with ∞ Sanguine Law ∞... It is only immature if you are calling yourself this to "be different" or for shock value. If it is truly who you are, then of course it's not immature. I assure you I shall be this way my whole life, as it is the only way I feel like myself.

Then why do we get thrown under the same belt as they do?

As Emos, Scenes, Moshers, etc.? Because, despite the fact that we are all completely different subculture, we are differenct from the mainstream. The mundane seem to think that everyone who is different are all the same (I hope I explained that well?)

Ah, yeah. I get it. Thanks for clearing that one up. :)
