 Prometheus
I have been so excited for this film, since it was originally announced Ridley Scott was working on an Alien prequel. He has since abandoned the idea that it will be an Alien film as he feels the AVP films have ruined the creature (while I agree they were terrible films, I disagree that the Xenomorph has been diluted by them, and is, right to the core, the scariest invention of film of all time), but it's quite obvious from the clip, that this is still the Alien universe, and not independent from it at all (something he has confirmed in interview). I've heard all kinds of things about what it will be like, including : It's about the pilot aliens home world (which is like Pandora from Avatar...but evil) and the origin of the xenomorph, probably nonsense, but didn't they look like artificial alien eggs? Didn't it look like someone got a facehugger on them? Didn't that look like an Alien hive? I just cannot wait for this, for me, 2012 is all about Prometheus.

 Re: Prometheus
There's a bit of it that DEFINITELY has the control seat of the alien ship rising into view. That was the one detail I got enough time to study.

This is gonna rule. It better. It has to. It needs to. And running away from something trying to step on you while you're in a spacesuit....this has to rule.

Pretty sure at 0.34 thats the Pilot Aliens (AKA the Space Jockey) head on the table too. I'll try and find the interview he said it in, but Ridley promised the film would have a surprise in it for Alien fans, I'm starting to wonder if the surprise is that it actually is the prequel it was originally going to be...

Can hardly wait for this, too! Haven't seen too much of a sneak peek in the trailers, though. (Maybe that's just as well.)

 Re: Prometheus
It's definitely in-continuity looking at the trailer.
I kind of wonder if it'll end up being the story of the colony that Ripley investigated. Prometheus was the dude who gave man fire after all.

If so, then it would be interesting to see Newt again. I hated Alien 3 for a lot of reasons, one of them being that Newt was killed off. That resourceful little kid was an interesting survivor and character, and it sucked when the scriptwriters just dismissively killed her off-screen. -- Nephele

 Re: Prometheus
I think it is supposedly set somewhere around 30 years before the first Alien film, so I wouldn't expect to see any of the old characters (except, possibly, Bishop or Ash) making an appearance.

 Re: Prometheus
View the Original Alien trailer again, for those who have forgotten or missed it. I think they have gone out of their way to reconnect with the original. After watching the new trailer, I would feel very disappointed (and somewhat 'played') if this was anything other then an "Alien" movie.

 Re: Prometheus
You can read some of an interview here in which Mr. Scott says it started out as an Alien prequel, but ended up as a standalone with Alien "threads."

I thought they might have gotten another kid to play the part of Newt, seeing as how the original actress couldn't have continued in that role anyway, what with six years having passed between movies. (Newt couldn't have aged six years.) I guess it was more convenient for the scriptwriters to just kill Newt off. R.I.P. Newt. -- Nephele

 Re: Prometheus
Meh, the movie looks okay, but it'll probably be better when I acutally see it in the theater.

 Re: Prometheus
Is this, or isn't this an "Alien" prequel? People say that Ridley Scott abandoned the idea, yet several people (and several sites) treat this as an "Alien" prequel.
So, which one is it? I'm confused.

 Re: Prometheus
Nobody knows, but we've been talking about various things in the trailer and Ridley Scott interviews related to that subject in here.
