Post Re: Things/objects that comfort you
For most bad mood days, listening to Peter Murphy helps me as I can think back to the times I've seen him live and those great memories. Since I saw him with friends, I also get to thinking about my close friends and those good memories. After some time, I calm down and get back to things.

Oddly, when my great-aunt recently passed, it was that very combination of good friends and Peter Murphy that kept me more or less together.

Beyond that, no objects really. I like to own different things, but I don't feel that I'm closely tied to most things I own. *will never be on the show Hoarders...unless it's the Animal Hoarders one...then maybe*

I usually find comfort in just laying on my bed listening to my music. I recently crocheted this gothic doll (she turned out quit well) that I confind in, I know it may sound childish but I cant trust another person (because now a days it aparently overrated to keep a secret)

I've also realized one of my most powerful things of comfort is this boar-tusk necklace my wife bought for me on my last birthday. It also comes from aboriginal Taiwan and is usually made for chieftains of the tribe, and endows them with the power of a god in order to always make the right choices.

My grim reaper tattoo also is something of a guardian totem for me, and is a constant reminder that the powers of the dead are constantly watching my back.....

I used to find comforting was this stuffed monkey but now I find sitting on a fence and looking at the stars and the moon at night to be extremely comforting. Someone told me along time ago that if you look up at the stars you will see how many people who are just as different as you are. Sadly there hasn't but much stars out lately :(

I just need to pop in a Hyaena or Tinderbox record, and I'm all good.

My teddy, Elizabeth. She's pink and fluffy and is dressed as an Irish dancer in a green and yellow velvet frock and matching head-dress, (as it was the only Tudor-y thing I could find in Build-A-Bear.) I adore her and I cuddle her whenever I feel down.

Another thing is my copy of Evanescence's Fallen, the words are so familiar and I know them off by heart. I used that CD to get through some of the hardest periods of my life, so when things get tough again I know it's there, and things never feel so bad when you know you're not alone and other people have been hurting too. It also helps me remember the things I survived and that if I can live though those I can live through anything.

Anything that's nostalgic comforts me and that's a pretty long list. I have an inner child that needs to be indulged.

When I'm feeling really depressed, I like to listen to my ipod (mainly My Chemical Romance, Chevelle, or Breaking Benjamin songs), or I love to read my favorite book series: The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. Vladimir Tod understands how I feel, and that brings me comfort when I read it. ^.^

My BagPuss and my make-up box. Glitter never fails at cheering me up.

I don't have a comforting object as I got rid of everything from my childhood (I was going through a period of self loathing and decided to destroy myself by symbolically destroying my past...long story). I have however a song I always play when I need cheering up:

Last of the Wilds by Nightwish

Ooh, I have a few.

Einsturzende Neubauten's albums Silence is Sexy and Zeichnungen des Patienten OT (probably spelled wrong) always manage to bring my mood up, even if I'm at my lowest.

The webcomic XKCD also cheers me up - I have a folder in my bookmarks full of strips I can read if I'm feeling sad.

And Sherlock Holmes. I don't know why. But reading a Sherlock Holmes story improves my mood.

I agree. I usually don't wear makeup, or I wear as little as possible, but if I know I'm going to be someplace straining I'll put effort into it and I feel a little better.

I always find solace in sketching. It doesn't matter what I'm creating, but I always seem to draw best when I'm upset. I need to be alone to feel truly at ease, usually with whatever my favorite song is playing in the background.
