 Re: KONY 2012
I agree. Thank you so much for sharing this video! It almost made me cry. Like you said, this man needs to be stopped, and I think that this plan will work.
I'm definitely getting an Action Kit.

 Re: KONY 2012
I think this is a good example of why the Hague needs an international special operations team devoted to dealing with war criminals like Kony.
Also, if they have a war criminal that avoids capture for enough time they should just try the case without him and then give him the chance to turn himself in. If he doesn't, then they can send the team in & take him out after his conviction. If he refuses to show up to face his accusers in court, that's his fault. As long as they put him on notice that his case will be tried, they've been reasonable enough IMO.
I know they'd prefer to arrest him prior to trying him, but there's a difference between seeking an arrest first for someone whose war crimes were in the past [i.e. the nazi hunters who would track down, detain, and then try war criminals] and someone whose war crimes are continuing in the present with no sign of stopping. There's no sense letting this crap go on indefinitely until he is picked up. If he won't cooperate fine. Try him now, then have a sniper put a bullet in him if he is convicted.

 Re: KONY 2012
I just watched this! This is great mobilization. If we could only do this in our own country and spend our own tax money wisely!!! Has there been any fact-checking done on this, does anyone know? heh..this is like the 3rd edit...but I did find this... A Washington Post articleThere are more links at the end of this article for further reading. A Wikipedia history. This is a multi-level issue, as the government of Uganda is full of its own human-rights atrocities. In a way, the US Government is wise to examine very carefully before sending any number of troops anywhere.

 Re: KONY 2012
Lachry - you beat me to the post!
I, as most of the world I assume, had never heard this man's name despite knowing peripherally about what he did in Uganda.
Now that I know who he is, I plan to make everyone I know aware.

 Re: KONY 2012
I wonder whether the date of April 20th for this event was chosen to closely coincide with Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), which will be falling on April 19th this year.
My heart is with all victims of oppression, and I'll also be doing what I can to promote awareness of Kony.

 Re: KONY 2012
While poking the around the interweb, I came across this page on The Daily What website, giving another view of this issue, and in particular of the charity involved. Just something for further consideration. Not to say that Kony shouldn't be taken out.

Kony kit off the interwebs to resolve the complex problems in Uganda. -- Nephele

-- Nephele I did buy a kit ($37 with shipping! Ouch!) because I figured it was a good way for me to personally raise awareness of what's going on with the LRA even outside Uganda. I am sure the materials cost them very little to make, but rather than give them a money donation and not know what was being done with it, I figured at least with the kit I'd be personally obligated to actually DO something. ~spidey

-- Nephele Of course it will. But this is a step in the right direction, I believe. Better to resolve one problem at a time than to let it continue.

 Re: KONY 2012
I'll try to word this as non-offensively as possible - Yes, child soldiers are a sad thing. Yes, Kony must be stopped. However, when it comes to places like Africa, even if you take out a couple of notorious warlords, two more will appear in their places. It's like the mythical hydra from Greek mythology. I don't know my African history, but from what I've gathered in general, that continent has problems and issues that run hundreds of kilometres deep into the earth, so to speak.
Liking a Facebook status, watching a doc on the subject, and even giving money to the cause won't stop the problem alone. We'd need to fix Africa as a whole politically speaking if we wanted to see some REAL change.
The environment needs to change before the people truly can. Sure, we can temporarily make things better (in my view) by removing a few big bads from play, but like I said earlier.... it'll be like a hydra.
If Africa wasn't such an impoverished, war-torn place people like Kony could never have done what they have.
In short, yes, stop this guy, and yes help the children - but, remember there's more than just one bad guy in Africa. Until we get all of them while making some severe environmental, societal, and political changes to Africa as a whole.... this shit'll just continue.

One may be skeptical about the efficacy of this movement, but I say that promoting public awareness is never a bad thing.

 Re: KONY 2012
There is a growing accusation leveled against the film-makers that this is some form of paid propaganda to prepare public opinion to back some form of US-led land grab.....
I have no idea what the legitimacy of that is, but hey, makes for fun headlines!
