Post Re: How Goths Answer Stupid Questions
Wearing a leather trenchcoat to school, I was, of course, prepared for all the Matrix comments. So I took some sunglasses and put them on. People actually thought it was pretty funny.
Some kids were behind me when I was walking to a class and they were shouting "DEAAATH..." in such a dramatic way, it made me giggle, even if it wasn't the most original.
The same kids, I think, started singing O Fortuna while walking behind me one day.
Generally I'm too stupid to come up with something clever, so I go into major sarcasm mode.
"Gothic much?"
*Gasp* "WELL, NO! HOW COULD YOU TELL!? Could it, by any chance, be the fact that I'm wearing big black boots with roses!? No, that can't be it! How about the dyed black hair, purple lips, and dark make-up? BUT... BUT I THOUGHT I WAS A HIPPIE! EVERYTHING I EVER BELIEVED WAS A LIE!" *Back of hand to forehead"

Oh, yeah, and some people make the cross sign at me, which I think is pretty funny. I just make the cross sign back but with my middle fingers instead of my index ones.

I just think it makes my life more interesting. As long as I don't get harassed or beaten up, or any of the horrible things some of these people have had to put up with, I don't mind.

Aside from giving me a nickname for my wearing of a black trenchcoat back in my college years, no one really questioned me with questions of that nature. I guess when a big guy over 6 foot tall puts on a black trenchcoat with mostly black clothing, no one wants to say anything to me.

Um, yeah. Visions of "the undertaker" flash through my head

Post Re: How Goths Answer Stupid Questions
I think the daftest question I was asked recently was whether or not I liked hip-hop music ;) having said that, the young man in question was a sweetie, so I was polite about it.

Oh actually, the truly daftest question recently was "Do you work here?" While wearing black jeans, new rocks, and a kitty-hoody, with the kitty-ears on the hood. While I was in Asda. I actually felt bad about it later, but I just blurted out "Pffffft! Does it look like it?" XD

I've been wearing said hoody a lot lately (it also can have bunny ears! ^.^ ) and I was wearing it home when walking from work recently (I have a new job). As part of the new job's uniform, I have to wear black cargo pants that are actually pretty darn cool, and certainly don't look too bad with aforementioned hoody. So I was walking along, minding my own business, hood up, strands of newly dyed hair coming out, listening to my MP3 player when I see a bunch of kids standing at the bus stop I was approaching. They were looking at me and staring. Pfft. They should see me on a day when I'm not wearing my uniform, they'd have something to stare at then ;) well anyway, I carried on walking, and these kids, about 13 or 14 (so if thats right, Im over 10 years older than them, even though most people assume I'm much younger), just stand right in the way. These were not thuggish looking kids either, they were well-dressed townie kids, and kinda soft looking, which leads me to believe they didn't realise my real age, because I certainly would not have been yelling things at mid-twenty-something-year olds at their age! They were doing that petty thing twats do when they refuse to relinquish a bit of pavement to let you go by without walking on a muddy grass verge, trying to basically make you "submit" by walking around them on the mud. I wasn't having any of it, just squared my shoulders and kept walking straight with a neutral expression on my face :)

The girls lost their bottle and minutely moved aside so I could walk by without touching them or walking on the grass. As I passed by, over my music I could hear one yell "EMO!"

To which I calmly replied "Oh no, no, I'm a Goth actually."

Something something. Then "GOTH!"

To which I just called back without looking "Thats right, you said it correctly, have a biscuit."

(Yeah that old line, but hey, I like that one ;) )

Then there more yelling. But I was too busy listening to Emilie Autumn thank you very much ;) Still, I don't get where that came from. Either kids are more daring little shits than they were about a decade ago, or else I really do still look like I could be in my teens <.<

That would be my real answer. It doesn't sound particularly rude to me, and if one were to say it with a sweet smile the asker just might laugh. The humor might put them at ease.

I wish that I could think fats on my feet. It always seems to be that I come up with witty responses a good bit after the moment has passed. So unfortunately, when I can`t have a snarky answer right away, I go for giving the obvious answer to the obvious question.

Here people don't ask questions. They just laugh at your face. One of the last times I had to face it was when a group laugh when I walk away with my mother. They were younger than me. What did I said? I said louder enough for them to hear: "Mom, the circus is in town, I saw the clowns right now!" XD

But if I had to answer those questions it would be probably like this:

Q:Are you a goth?
A:No I'm Octávio de Matos (it's a portuguese comedy actor, you can see him here: http://fotos.sapo.pt/HIzyDsaZi4GidK51GcRg/ ) pretending to be Bat-Girl, it's not obvious?

Q:Why are you dressed in black? It's so...black!
A:Why are you dressed in (color)? It's so...(color)!

Q:It was because people like you that the world is what it is, isn't right?
A:Yes, because, besides my great knowledge, I know everyone! Yes, I'm awesome! (said in a sarcastic way), I am adept of silly jokes!

Q:Run or she will drink your blood!
A:Sorry, I've just finished to drink the blood of the taxi driver, I'm full

Love the first one.

As for the second, ouch. That would have stung.

Yeah, this weekend at the fair I lost count how many people thought I was a girl and asked me if I was a boy or a girl. At one point I was walking with one of my friends from work and we met up with a guy he knew who asked him if I was his girlfriend, and he was serious.

At one point this kid told me his friend wanted to do me (apparently not knowing I was a guy.) Kind of strange, a girl told me her friend liked me and a second later asked if I was a boy or a girl to make sure. Made me wonder if she really cared either way (hah hah.) I guess people aren't used to seeing guys wearing dark makeup.

I looked beyond crazy for the small town fair that I was at. I looked crazier than the Kiss Tribute band playing. Many people wanted pictures and asked if I was in a band that was scheduled to play at the fair. I wore shredded black clothing, a corset like backpack, arm and leg warmers, multiple belts, a buckle scarf, and a german officer's hat to which one guy with Nazi tattoos recognized it. To say the least, it was a crazy weekend. I guess I had to look opposite of the amish walking around.

Btw, no I don't support Nazis'. I'm a collector or World War II Peaked visor hats as I have russian and american ones as well.

Just kidding, bro! I know what you're going through. I get stuff like that for dressing in somewhat masculine clothing. My seventy year old friend once told me, bless her heart, that some people might think I'm a lesbian because of my men's tees and men's cargo pants. Although my attempts to look less feminine by cutting my hair like Kurt Cobain didn't seem to work as my friends all thought it was a girl's hairstyle.

Oh, and I think androgynous guys are cute!

Pretty commonplace for a lot of goths. I only wear makeup if I'm going to a goth concert (Rammstein was the last time), except for some guy liner if I'm going to a party with people I know well. Last February I dyed my hair red with platinum streaks, I could hear people as I walked by saying "oh my gawdddddddddd look at his hair!!" Christ almighty, could they say it any louder? And the gawking was bad too, but it did hit off with quite a few girls (scene chicks mostly). And that's cool about the visor cap, I myself dress in military gothic style, I have an m43 German jacket, but I want to get some more militaria when I have the cash (it's not cheap).

I guess I never thought to put a word to it, I just more or less enjoy dressing crazy and unique. I had eyeliner on at work at one point and a customer thought I was a girl even though I was wearing my regular work uniform.

"Dear, do you really think it's neccisary to go out in public dressed like some bizzare, spikey, undead, vampire , victorian, rambling, dominatrix, machete-wielding ghost-girl?" "Yes."
