Post Re: Feeling at home during the night
It's really comforting to read through some of these. It's been almost impossible for me to fall asleep at night since I was about 13. It doesn't matter how much or how little sleep I get, nor does it matter how many times I try to get on a 'normal' schedule or what I do to try, the minute the sun is down I am wired. 3am is usually the earliest I can pass out, and even with a full night's sleep, my butt is dragging by noon.

I also hate the giant glowing orb in the sky more than anything. My skin doesn't do tan, though it does pink and red quite well. My shoulders and face are usually starting to get pink in about twenty minutes. I'm also half blind in broad daylight. My eyes ache and detail in even darker colors is lost to me, so sunglasses are a must.

I'm also not the biggest fan of most of my fellow human beings, and being out at night helps cut down on that. I just can't do crowds. Even going to Walmart midday is enough to push me towards a panic attack. My tolerance has increased as I've gotten older, but it's still a matter of when and not if my body decides to betray me. As I'm sure many of you can relate to, this has caused me no end of problems with work, school, and socializing.

Sounds like your skin is similar to mine. The sun hates me and I'd hate it too, if it's heat wasn't vital to my existence. Especially now, I've 'contracted' something that makes my eyes and skin even more sensitive to the sunlight, it feels deadly. I'd love to get a night shift job and sleep by day. One advantage of being a night-person though is your night vision tends to be a lot more adept, which is good.

The night is calming and serene, if not chilly. I like to take walks on a night time because it's so relaxing. It's too bad my friends don't feel the same way  the last person I went on a night walk with wasn't pleased. She kept asking me if she could take her phone out and use it as a light source. I kept telling her "no, you'll adjust!"

My vision in the dark is probably the best of anyone I personally know. I had a psychology professor that helped explain a bit of it to me. Evidently, those with blue and light green eyes let in more light than those with brown, which means we can see better at night. If we were to switch eyes with someone with naturally darker colored eyes, they would be shocked at just how well we do function in broad daylight. Whether he was right or not is another matter, but it still seems the best explanation I've heard. But in any case, yeah...bringing out a light source is only going to make things harder to see for her, and interfere with your own vision by being near. I hope she was able to learn that with just a little patience, she can pick up on things she never normally would have before.

That's a weird one, I haven't heard that before. I have blue eyes and my vision is good, so do you, so out of the two examples I know, it does make a little sense. I'll have to test that theory out at some point, to see if it holds any ground.

Yeah, she didn't adjust in the slightest, she just kept complaining and wanted to go home when I turned off into a narrow passage, but I made her walk it , being the oh so considerate guy I am

My mom gets so irritated because I'm trying to have deep philosophical discussions with her starting at 10 P.M. when she just wants to be playing Zynga games. I do a lot of my best writing at night, too.

Hmm. I haven't heard of any advantages to having blue eyes, only glare issues and damages from the sun. I found this article among many:

"The darker the eyes, the more light is absorbed as light waves pass through the eye, and the less light is available to reflect within the eye. Light reflection (scatter) within the eye can cause susceptibility to glare (eg. sun or headlights) and to poor contrast discernment."

Looks like other animals have seasonal changes. Blue eyes for low light levels seems correct. Go ask anyone in the UK (typical thats its sunny there right now.)

I hate daytime because sun is harsh and darkness is beautiful. I did try going nocturnal once but it did not work out because businesses are all closed at night so if I want to have the basic necessities of life taken care of, being awake during the day is a must.

I definitely am more alert and alive at night, not to mention more creative and inspired. I used to have a night-time lifestyle. But since I took on a 9-5 job, that`s been wrecked and it`s become very hard to have some night time. I miss it terribly.

The night time is great. The silence and sincerity cannot be beat. I love going out on a warm night and just staring at the sky. Simply beautiful.

It is, isn't it? Whether it is cloudy or not. I love it. And the night time air is always nice too! :)

The environment is so much more calm, too. With all the daywalkers in bed, you can venture in peace generally at night with little disturbance.
