While I appreciate the sentiment, I'm still trying to decide if this reporter was deliberately trying to troll. I admit I'm probably no more than lightly Gothic (especially when it comes to make up and clothing, because I'm both lazy and poor), but this story and especially the pictures had me cringing. Thoughts? Comments? Is World Goth Day even a commonly recognized thing?

Well, one thing's for sure, the internet is so very lucky to have such "Goths" as Marilyn Manson and Slipknot at hand to represent the subculture, according to this article's picture slideshow.

Yeah, Marilyn Manson has to be my favorite goth musical act.

I can at least see Marylin Manson as a sibling or cousin to Goth, just like Alice Cooper. But regardless of a dark bent, it's shock or theatrical rock. While they may have things in common, I have a hard time comparing the musical work of Manson to a band like Bauhaus. The more I expose myself to goth music, the more I wonder how these sorts of misnomers can happen if the journalist did even minimal research and didn't rely entirely on stereotypes.

Gotta love common misconceptions...but isn't what this day about? Helping to dispel that sort of thing? *shrugs* Anyway, happy WGD to all!
