 Amazon.com - Associate
Hey all, I finally got around to signing up to be an amazon.com associate. This means if you use our link to get to amazon.com instead of just the URL, then amazon will record us as the person who referred you to amazon.com, and thus if you buy something, will give GOTH.NET a kick-back on your purchase - and it won't affect your price at all. Not only this, you can put in "redirect?tag=gothnet-20&path=" after the "obidos/" in any amazon.com URL (and before the rest of the URL). So for example to link to Eddie Izzard's Dressed to Kill, you would use this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redir ... d&n=507846rather than http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... d&n=507846 (obviously with the http:// in front of each case). Note they are the same URL, but I have added the text that makes GOTH.NET the referrer - amazon.com will re-write the URL to the latter automatically, but it will keep in 'memory' that GOTH.NET referred you. I ask this because I have just purchased some rather expensive upgrades for GOTH.NET ($460 worth, remembering of course GOTH.NET has made only $135 from subscriptions and donations in the year and a half GOTH.NET has been accepting donations and subscriptions - thats without counting fee's paid on the above donations (about $6) or hosting charges for its internet access). So as you see, every little bit helps, and so if you're going to make a purchase from amazon anyway, why not help support GOTH.NET while you're at it.

So, no matter what book, music, etc we decide to purchase, as long as it's done through the link on GN, you guys get that special credit, right? If that's the case, I'll make sure to bookmark it!!

SHit! I just purchased two movies and three albums from amazon an hour ago! I didn't know about the link, but I'll definitely do it next time. I probably buy 85% of my music and entertainment through amazon.

We figured this would be a good way for people to be able to support GOTH.NET without actually going out of their way to donate funds to us, something that just happens very rarely as it is.
This way you go about your regular shopping and we benefit from that fact
If anyone feels there are other stores we should set up a similar affiliation with, let us know, we're more than willing to consider it.

Is it possible (for the curious one) to get a rough estimate on how much Goth.Net makes / order made through that link? Is it a % of the sum?
As I said, just curious, I have the link bookmarked for later, but I must admit that ordering from Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk is not something I do frequently due to their HUGE shippingfees.

It's a base 5% but it can be up to 15% depending on a bunch of things... the more transactions that we send their way the higher the percentage gets with 15% being the max. I'm not sure if our link will work for amazon.co.uk but we'll definitely check it out, especially as for the european peeps it's easier to get stuff from there, and some items are only availible from amazon.co.uk (uk published only etc.) /div wrote: As I said, just curious, I have the link bookmarked for later, but I must admit that ordering from Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk is not something I do frequently due to their HUGE shippingfees.
Well, you don't have to go out and buy stuff from them, but this is a nice way for people who already shop there to support us while they shop.

Indeed it is
Acctually, when I ordered from Amazon.co.uk I noticed once my package arrived that ordering from Amazon.com had been cheaper considering shippingfees wich is strange since last time I checked a map, England was closer to Sweden than America. X)

For those of you who use amazon.co.uk, you can use this link for the amazon.co.uk GOTH.NET associates program
The text of which is http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home/gothnet-21.

I just bought two David Gemmell novels off Amazon, then when I announced it on mIRC, PreZ made me feel guilty by mentioning the link.

I wish I knew this last night. I've just ordered 4 books. I'll make sure to remember this now, as I use amazon.co.uk a lot.
