Does anybody know of some new, up-and-coming bands that play "old school" Goth/Deathrock (i.e. Bauhaus, early The Cure, Siouxsie, Christian Death, etc.)?

I love the oldies, but I wish I could hear some fresh new sounds ala First-Generation Goth Rock. Most of the new Goth Rock bands sound really electronic/darkwave, and most of the new Deathrock bands sound like really goofy Horrorpunk/Psychobilly.

I'm looking for some good old-fashioned Batcave in fresh new packages.

So many. Check out the Wikipedia article on Deathrock for a list of modern deathrock bands.

For the more contemporary deathrock sound:

Cinema Strange
Murder At The Registry
Sleeping Children
The Last Days Of Jesus
All Gone Dead
Astrovamps
Frank the Baptist
Phantom Limbs
The Vanishing
Violet Stigmata

Enjoy.

I am more into the "darkwave" sound with haunting atmospheres, but as for old school death rock from a new band, I couldn`t recommend Violet Stigmata more!!!
One of the few bands keeping the darkness within death rock!!!
Cinema Strange are quite obvious also. I met Lucas once, and he seemed a real down-to-earth chap.

Perhaps also check out Chants of Maldoror, Last Days of Jesus, Frank The Baptist, or Turn Pale.

Also Tragic Black are alright. The vocals aren`t my cup of tea, but the music is great!!

They're worth seeing live as well. One of my favourite live bands. :)

I also second the recommendations of Bella Morte and Violet Stigmata both are great bands (and are also good live bands).

first band that comes to mind, right now, is "Pins and Needles." i've been listening to a lot of new death rock stuff, and it's quite cool, but when i hear these guys, it REALLY feels like i'm listening to the old '80's stuff - which is pretty nice ^^

http://pinsandneedlesmusic.com/music.html

imo, i'd suggest, if you want to learn about new, cool gothic bands in general - and that includes a hell of a lot of the new deathrockers and stuff like that... regularly check into mick mercer's site.

http://mickmercer.com/

he does a free webzine (pretty big each issue, too, and it's completely done by him!), and regularly does tons of reviews and interviews. frankly, goths are lucky to have a guy like him ^^

I've just discovered some bands and I thought it could interest you.

Joy disaster: a French post-punk band much influenced by Sir Ian Curtis
Collection d'Arnell Andrea: another French band between post-punk and Switchblade symphony(on their last album at least)
Etron: a belgian somewhat deathrock band
Pink turns blue: not sure whether they are newer but a wonderful post-punk band. They are just absolutely brilliant!

Hope this helps!

Indeed, I just returned from a wonderful time at Wave Gotik Treffen and saw both Pink Turns Blue(part of the WGT pre-party, playing old goth covers with a special guest singer for every two songs, including Stefan from Das Ich, Ronny from Clan of Xymox and Wayne Hussey from the Mission), as well as Katzenjammer Kabarett.
Katzenjammer Kabarett play a nice dark mix of death rock and cabaret stylings. Excellent live show!!!

Star Industry sounds similar to Sisters of Mercy.
