 Tribal Goth
Hi, thinking seriously of going into a bit of tribal goth. The problem is that I do not really know how I should do with hair, makeup, clothes. Anyone got some good pictures, pages, tips and / or ideas?
Right now I have small braids here and there in her hair, thinking also about getting clips with longer braids. Pearls are of course also an idea. Jewelry made of wood and bone. The hardest part is the clothes.

 Re: Tribal Goth
Well I have watched and envied and wished for, but right now I'm not in shape to have these beautiful things. But there will come a day when I am there again: D There is a lot of inspiration there. I would have to tip on the upper parts mainly, that does not show the belly.

 Re: Tribal Goth
I will watch this thread with interest. I took up Egyptian belly dance back in May, and I would love to take up Tribal at some point At the moment, when doing "gothic belly dance look" I wear either a floor-length gypsy skirt (black of course) or my black velvet flares, with black cami and black lacy bolero-thingy, and then team it with my coin scarf and other scarves and clothes tied around my waist. It has a slightly hippy look really, because I don't have many tribal things, like bone or metal. I would love to get more things, but a lot of it tends to be handmade, so it maybe a case of just collecting things that you like and making them into something unique. Btw, you really do not have to be "in shape" to belly dance or wear the costumes. I do not bare my "cake shelf" because I'm not comfortable with it; a lot of traditional belly dancers tend to be bigger, older women. Tribal fusion tends to be a lot more intensive than traditional Turkish or Egyptian because its "fusing" other dance styles. Most of the ladies in my class are much older (many in my last class were OAPs) and many also have tummies. A friend gave me a tribal belly chain but unfortunately, me is too fat for it I think I'll have to wear it around my bra instead.

 Re: Tribal Goth
When I think of 'tribal Goth' I picture things like tribal nations in Africa, Native Americans, Hawiian, bellydancers....ALL done with a gothic flair.

 Re: Tribal Goth
I watched a sort of interview portion on a DVD I rented on Tribal Fusion (it had Rachel Brice on it yaaay!) and a lot of the dancers were being asked about their costuming and from the looks of it, most of what they wear is handmade by themselves. A lot of them were showing off things that they bought in one country, or a friend had bought from them in another country, or something they bought on eBay etc. Things from Egypt, Turlkey, Thailand...everywhere really. A lot of the time as well, they would have bought something that started out life as a necklace and became an earring, or as an earring and became a belly-adornment etc. I guess with the flavour of fusion at the heart of it, it makes sense that they would be wearing something from various different cultures and countries.
I also like the gypsy sort of look they sometimes have.

 Re: Tribal Goth
I would say, think cultural influence meets gypsy. ...But I could be mistaken. There's always room for that.

I also like the gypsy sort of look they sometimes have. I was watching one of those and at the end they were saying that they got this piece for $500(it was a sterling silver belt) another piece was $800(IIRC) and other pieces were $80-120. I sat there thinking, "Well, geez, no wonder everyone can't look that good! We can't all afford such expensive outfits to dance in!" I was really hoping that they would have actually said something about how they made some of the stuff, but it was just where they got it and how much it was. I was disappointed.

Tribal Goth. The newest addition to the Goth Stereotypes website. I just noticed it yesterday.

 Re: Tribal Goth
Has anyone seen any Tribal goths wearing African tribe outfits - especially goths of color?

It really looks like the Tribal Fusion belly dancers, not really 'Tribal Goth', to me. Onyx, I have not seen any Goths wearing African tribal style clothing, but if you wanted to wear that I think it would be cool to see it done all in black, purple, red, and silver.

 Re: Tribal Goth
Yes, I've realized that I probably will create a lot of it by my self, but bought a hip skirt a while back ... and this summer will be to find pants and skirts that feel right ... The big problem is the upper body ... it is tricky. I'd love to have something that covers the stomach. Should I buy everything, it would take a long time to afford all o_O. Collects my accessories here and there.
But would be fun if I found a site with tips and ideas. I thought a bit of Nordic Viking shaman .

 Re: Tribal Goth
This is very interesting as it seems that Tribal Goth has its own different "categories" too! I do personally think of the look of Tribal Fusion bellydancers when I hear "Tribal Goth" but I suppose it makes sense that if you take the word "tribe" well...what tribe exactly? That could apply to all sorts of different ethnicities, cultures and backgrounds! Hehe, its actually quite cool, its very much open to interpretation!
